I wanted it to connect to my head unit so it would charge whilst playing!

Then buy a cheap iPod. You can leave that in the car and then charge your iPhone with the one I posted

Do you have a Clio?

None of the chargers I have bought for the iPhone fit the Clio's cigarette lighter, they never push in all of the way.
