  Remapped derv Golf

Ive crashed her! Last the other night in the snow and ice. Hit a patch of ice and couldnt stop it. Only hit the stationary 7-series BMW about 15 mph but look at the damage:)

Insurance company hasnt looked at her yet but would you say this is a right off?

And before we go there ok ABS may have stopped me but its too late for that.

Only had her 2 months :( Why! didnt I take the Megane

I wouldnt say is a right off

Unless you have bent something that isnt cheap to replace!

Might get away with new bumper, Slam Panel, bonnet and lights, wings!

Depends how much the quote. probs not a right off though!

U got protected No claims. I dont reckon ABS would have helped that much on Ice!

Engine was still going fine after the crash but I havent start it since incase it goes bang! There are a few snapped pipes.

NEVER! Hit a 7 series - like hitting a brick wall.

Tesco say if it cost too much to fix theyll pay for a new one. Doubt theyll find many new cups now

ABS is good but on ice it does sweet FA. I know, I almost got out of my car the other night to warm the person in front I couldnt stop it I was sliding so slowly on the ice.

As Ben says, only something harder than you can stop you.

Sorry to see thats happened to your car. Hope it all gets sorted.

Im sure a front impact like that hasnt done any chassis damage so Id guess theyll get that sorted for you. If they write of a car of that value then there has to be something seriously wrong.

Shouldnt be at all mate if the works done properly. As its new parts!!!

No different than them building in the factory unless you have damaged something they dont spot! hence why a good job is essential!

  Revels Mum & Sister

Make sure when you get it that the bonnet shuts properly and Gaps either side are spot on!

Few years ago! Had the same sorta thing happen with my old Nova GTE!!

And that didnt line up completely properly as the bonnet hangers were bent and welded to the Bulkhead. Sure its totally different now but just make sure!

Im thinking if we get ice like that again Im getting an anchor I can chuck out the car. Seems like the only way to stop when going down an ice covered hill. :p

sorry to hear mate :(

for info, some nice lady driver last year damaged the front end of my 172 (6 days after ownership!). Had a new grill, bumper, ns wing and ns xenon light replaced. Bill came to £1500. mine was no way near as bad tho.

one thing is the car has never felt right since then even for such a small impact, but thats cuz i just know its not perfect any more. I would swap it in an instant if i had the money.....

hope you get it all sorted ok though :)

if the car doesnt need to be reshelled, fortunately or unfortunately how ever you look at it the insurance company will repair a car up to 60% of its value !!!

This happpened to my radiant red ford puma 1.7...the damage looked massive, it never drove the same afterwards and i got rid of it within a week of getting it back from the garage.

  Ford F-150 5.4 V8

Sorry to see that mate. I had a bad smash on wed in the ice too!

doubt it will be written off. i did the same thing in 2000 with my last clio! new front bumper, wings an bonnet!

Sorry to hear about that. I dont believe it is a write off though as I has siamler damage to a 6k fiesta and that wasnt written off. The only thing is if they need to replace the shell (as has been previously mentioned). When my scoob overturned  it drove as normal nut the shell needed replacing and they wrote it off:(.

If its any consellation My golf skidded (whilst stationary I might add) in the ice but it took it slightly better than above!

Really sorry to see your car mate, but on the bright side i think by the looks of it, its mainly superficial damage because from the photo nothing below your wheel seems to be bent so the subframe should be ok at least.

Looks like the crumple zones have done there stuff, rad looks like its had a bit of an impact no? By the way did airbag deploy?

I recon they will fix it as replacing the car would be a problemas its a new for old policy isnt it and there no new CUps around.

However its the damage you cannot see that is the worse and can write the car of. If the chassis etc is bent than they will write it of.

Your probaly looking at about £4k damage there if nothing serious is bust ie chassis. depends on what the insurer recons the cars worth if its 10k and its a 50% write of deal then 5k worth of damage will write it of.

Frosty,

Yeah bit of whip lash but Im ok. Give you a tip dont run into a 730i (Ten ton of PIG IRON).

They (Renault) are coming to pick the car up on Monday to investigate.

One of the lovely wheels is fecked too

  Ph-Sold!

I feel for you mate, did same thing myself the other day on some black ice, amazing how much the internal panels have twisted at bout 5mph!

Had it picked up yesterday, and still waiting to hear what Renault think itll cost (insurance job anyway).

Hope you get yours sorted soon!

Bloody hell! Looks like 2 wings, bumper, front pannel, radiator, bonnet, 2xheadlights and some plastic trim. looking about 3-4k so they wont wright it off, however they may give you the option to. ABS is w**k in the snow, it just makes the brake peddal judder...not the nicest feeling in the world.

If they repair it, make sure that the suspension springs are not cracked and the the front pannel is straight (this seriously effects your headlight aim and you cannot get an MOT without it) and that the bonnet sits perfectly. Most insurers dont use offical parts and it might not be quite right.

Does the BMW owner know or did you make a run for it?

i cant really sympathise because you shouldnt have put yourself in this position in such bad weather, sorry mate but theres not really an excuse! I know it sounds harsh but i was driving so cautiously and never got into any bother, even going down my road i just stayed a good 20 metres away from the car in front

  Remapped derv Golf

Thing is mate you werent thing and didnt see what happened so its easy to say that now isnt it. Theres too much detail to explain so Im not even gonna go into what happened extactly.

I was going to work (nightshift) I know I should have tried to get a cab but I really didnt think the weather was that bad. As I progessed down the road I discovered it was.

spirez, in all fairness most of us have had an accident at some point and an accident is just that, its not something deliberate and in most cases its caused by unavoidable or unpredictable circumstances. ok some accidents are caused by people driving like knobs or just in a way that doesnt take into consideration the condition of the road or grip available but where ice/snow is concerned its totally unpredictable and all you can do is be as cautious as poss, if there is sheet ice under the snow at the point where you happen to brake or turn you wont know until its too late. i sympathise if my car was in that state id be gutted

  Mk2 Golf GTI

fair enough and im sorry for making it sound so harsh but its just how i see it. Theres bin some careless drivers down my street and it pissed me off cuz one of them ended up crashing into the side of my mums car because he was going to fast and lost traction. I didnt even attemp to drive in the snow once i was home from work. But i am sorry that your car is in a state, didnt mean to offend!

Gutted for you, its something we all dread.

That wont be written off, and a shunt at that speed isnt going to affect its integrity IMO.

  VW Potato

that cars not a write off, not even near it. Theres no structural damage, its just the soft points (bumper wings, lights etc) that have been hurt. Airbag would not have gone off as the deceleration was gentle (relatively speaking), esp as the crumple zones have hardly been affected. Ironically, had you taken your foot off the brake when you hit the BMW, you would have probably done some nice damage to the BMW (your nose was dipped when you hit the BMW, which is why your soft bits - lights, grill etc - got mullered by the BMWs hard bits - bumper etc).

Hope it all turns out nice, fella.

Ouch, I did the same to my old polo Gti, bonnet folded up, fcuked radiator etc etc, it thought write off, but the insurance said no way, it was in the shop for three weeks, until it was fixed :( Plus its not the same when you get it back, I wish It had been a write off.

He wasnt around it was a parked car. The car didnt belong on that road and it was registered to a company not a person. Think it had been left there in the snow storm during thursday. Well thats what a lady in a local house said when the police knocked.

Im still waiting for the police to input the details into their database so I can get the details on the BMW and give them to the insurance company. The police that attended the sciene said they couldnt get in touch with the owner. I went back early to next day but the car had gone.
