It can be done-172MOT cat

  ValverInBits
Following on from fitting my 182 manifold and decat - guide

.....my MOT came up. Looking at the 172 cat, I decided it could be adapted, some people on here agreed too.

This Pic show the 182 manifold and decat, followed by the 172 manifold and cat.

I got bored of trying to find someone to weld up the cat that I had measured and cut, so I just decided to buy a cheap 2nd hand SiP MIG welder and have a go.........with a certain degree of sucess.

Have never welded before, this is the abortion i created.

But it worked and passed the MOT fine!
I'd like to point out that most of the bigger flange was welded without gas  as i didnt realise I'd ran out:eek: muppet tbqfh

performance wise, Definate LACK of power (especially at the higher end) with this cat on. Much better now the decat is back on. :approve:

that's the shittest welding i think i've ever seen :rasp: (where's the clean metal?!) but good job otherwise. always fun doing stuff like this

it's pretty easy to pick up - just takes a little time and experimentation. try those poly stripping discs to clean the work faces - they make v light work of exposing clean metal even if it's badly corroded

  RS RIP
ahh there it is, nice job this ! I looked through your threads and dug this one up as it's MOT time soon again :( I will have to attempt to copy your work of art here ;)

Hope the cams + map etc. wo'nt send my CO through the sky ..
