If it's a road car, turbo probably makes sense.

Saying that, it's not something I would do. Being normally aspirated suits the Clio in my view.

I don't know about it first hand (so it might not be good) but I'd consider going for a Meg 225 or R26 engine swap, that way it would have a turbo that's meant to be there it'll probably be a lot cheaper than a turbo conversion.

Boost - I'd either buy one done or buy a Megane, it's a lot of money to spend at ED when you can go out and buy a good spec car for a grand more.

If you're racing then get ITBs, I had them on mine for a year, they made the car sound great but the power to £ isn't worth it.

I would have to agree with cat171 go for a engine conversion that is set up for a turbo. Not saying the 172 limo can’t handle a turbo but a don’t see it being as reliable as it being standard. But yet again lods of Honda boys do the k20 turbo kit and seems to be fairly reliable.

End of the day mate it’s ur money ur car do what u think is best all we can do is give u advise on what we would do.

Leave well alone ITB if you must .
A lot of cash for the gains tho .
Every clio thats been turboed is up for sale 12 months later so avoid !!!

To be fair, there have been a lot of reliable ED turbo conversions... don't hear of them going majorly wrong.

Ive had ITB's fitted about 7 years with zero issues although mines not a daily, I fancied some boost so i have bought an R26.
I Must admit to really enjoying the meg, so after 12 years the old clio will up for sale shortly 😞.

There’s rarely any issues with itbs that I know of if done right. But after it all you’re in 2.5k for an extra 15-20bhp. I got three times that on my old Volvo by buying an £11 manual Boost controller!
This 1000%

I found a grey pube while owning my clioturbo from all the stress, i sold the car and the pube has slowly turned back ginger!(i preferred it grey)

I would say you have to be useful with a spanner if you want to own a turbo clio, and have a fairly good knowledge of clios mechanically. Ive owned 2 turbo clios first was a phase 1 with 260 bhp and a 120k mile bottom end, owned that for a year and nothing went wrong, just a notchy 3rd gear and after i sold it it was still going as a turbo for a few years after. my 182 now is a low boost 230 bhp which is on the ED kit, and its been about 14 months now since the conversion and nothings gone wrong

Interesting that no one ever mentions supercharging. It's a far easier conversion to do, less to go wrong, and decent power output too.... All in stock internals, just my 2 pence worth.
For a daily with no AC not much of a good idea to me. Unless there's a SC Kit that retains AC I'M ALL FOR IT

It's a daily mate.

Supercharging is a nice option for linear power but it's also the most expensive option of the three, afaik you can't keep ac with that conversion , but where about a you from? You can't be from the UK if you "need" A/c lol

Indeed, the Rotrex bolts in place of the AC pump. Mine was a 2nd car for trackdays, shows and general fun times so for me losing the AC wasn't a big deal, but do appreciate in our rare summer months and for people abroad it's quite the necessity.

Mine in low boost at 220hp really didnt feel as quick as a standard car, at 285hp it took off like a a tramp chasing a fiver in a hurricane after 4k rpm.

In low boost running gate pressure, it just didn't feel quick, it felt really flat and you also lose the throttle response and urgency that na gives you.

I wouldnt go low boost, i would be disappointed, go big or go home, but get it built by someone thats is really good because they do come with their problems if theyre not done right.

Your low boost option would drive differently to an ED LB due to the difference in compression/pistons. Having had 176bhp/151lbft, 206bhp/166lbft and 236bhp/228lbft Clios, it's the torque of the LB that makes them quicker than the standard cars

Probably, it just felt as flat as a fart at circa 6psi.
