Ive just got a 172 for a track day toy

Ive just a Ph2 172 for a track toy for when im not racing, only problem, stuck in 5th gear, looking on here gearboxes seem to be a week point? I did not pay much and considering its got cup suspension, Ktec stainless system, Cup wheels and the rest of the car is in excellent condition etc Im happy with it. I plan to take the box out this weekend and send it off for repair.

Any information what maybe wrong with it would be appretiated.

Welcome to the club, where are you based? Agency Transmissions in Worcester have a very good reputation on here for gearbox rebuilds.

well finally stripped the clio to find box is knackered, also shaft, gearbox mount as as box is out would put a clutch in, priced up will be approx £850 to do and will spot on. Quesion is what is a clio 172 with cup wheels, KTec coilovers, stainless systems, FSH and the repairs worth? Seems a shame to break and would be fun but think might break then buy another.

How many miles has it done, who changed the cambelt and when was it done?

I'm guessing it would be worth a fair bit more selling it as parts.

But if you cut your losses and buy another one what's to say after afew track days the gearbox won't pack in?

I agree about gearbox, the car will be sorted and should be trouble free for a few years. cambelt done at Renualt dealer, Ive looked at similar priced cars and they range from 2.5-3k

Why not just sort the box out and pick up a second hand one off the forum

2nd hand boxes seem to go for 250 plus and who knows how long it will last, not the easiest job getting out so if I do repair I would rather do it right and not have to do again, I was trying to guage what car is worth with brand new box etc

After finishing my clio, ive not managed to get on a track day yet and prices for cars seem low at the moment, considering breaking it but seems a shame as paint is mint, new box, clutch, shaft, 4 brand new toyos, question to ask, what are clio spare parts prices like?
