Jakes BoxFresh Titanium 182

  Titanium 182
Hi all, thought I would start a progress thread for my recently acquired titanium 182 from CS member Lawro. The car has already had a lot of love and attention so in terms on "needs" the list is very small! I also wanted my 182 to look pretty much exactly how Lawro sold the car to me so again that list will be small, but I still foresee a lot more work going into this car so made sense to start this up!

Here are my plans:

Fixes/Mechanics/Services

  • Replace the shot rear exhaust hangers with Powerflex ones
  • Either tighten back up or replace rear exhaust hanger which is rattling like crazy at low rpm
  • Replace AUX belt as it is coming up in the next 5k miles
  • Sort out a vibration/rattle from glove box
  • Seems to be some sort of rubbing/grinding at full lock slow speed turning, my old 182 did this so may just be normal but will double check there is no rubbing
  • Front DS2500 pads are squealing like a pig so really want to get this addressed, still loads of pad left I just heard these can be a bit noisy at gentle braking

Cosmetics

  • Replace Clio badge with the new RS style badge
  • Respray interior dash strips anthracite (this will be the OEM theme I am sticking to with this car)
  • Interior LED conversion, perhaps to blue but needs doing as one of the bulbs looks like it's out near the clock
  • New headunit, possibly go on to replace interior speakers and tweeters and add a small lightweight under seat sub if the audio still isn't up to par
  • I might look into changing the colour of the Renault diamonds to anthacite to match bullets and alloys, think this should go well
  • Possible change mirrors to anthracite too, again a big IF and lots of photoshops prior to this as I want to keep it looking subtle and OEM
  • Wind deflectors

Performance

Car already has the few things I was willing to have done installed, these are matched inlets and decat. However I think I will take it a touch further

  • Different air intake (not done my research yet!)
  • Remap (should complement the matched inlets and decat well)

Lawro had the car dyno'd in November 2013 and it was putting out a very healthy 183bhp so I really don't feel the need for any massive power gains, I will definitely not be going down the boost route lol

In between all this I will be keeping the car serviced on the dot and keeping it looking box fresh! Bodywork really wants for nothing I've never seen a cleaner 182 if I'm honest so I want it to stay that way.

Here are a few really crappy driveway pics, car could do with a quick detail when it's not lashing it down also appear to have lost the front shots :S

Enjoy, will take some proper photos after a clean lol

ha yea the seats really make the interior, especially with the re-trimmed wheel. I think Lawro sourced these seats on his own, they were restitched with silver trimmings and RenaultSport on the tops! Pretty comfy too

Quick update on my project thread!

All belts were changed a few weeks ago by the lads at SC Autos, top service and now the engine runs very quiet again as the dephaser was one on the way out! Today I sorted out some little niggles including a horrible boot rattle, fog lights coming on when I brake or indicate and most importantly found out that my O/S lower wishbone ball joint is completely shagged so ordered a new one (Lemforder) for £16 delivered. FYI the fog light issue was the common rear light cluster, one side was completely rusted up so spend a while with some electrical cleaner and a small file and now it's all good again.

New HU has been fitted and also a sub for the boot. I also ordered some new front speakers and an amp but the standard speakers really are pretty decent once they have a good quality head unit driving them with the LPF activated, so I am flogging the amp and speakers (on marketplace now)

Also ordering the new style RS badge as definitely prefer it over the Clio badge and got some wind deflectors en route from a pal.
Car is getting a full post winter detail either tomorrow or next weekend and then me a few pals are going on a drive out somewhere so will finally get this thread updated with some up to date pics! @Lawro can stop moaning then....

  Titanium 182
I should have just taken all the pics together to save multiple posts

Pic of new HU, good thing is you can choose whichever colour so I could keep it looking OEM, excuse the McDonald's coke.

Good news, all the front end issues I have been having were down to the front lower ball joint. New one fitted today and wow has it made a difference! No more popping, steering is now really light again and of course the car isn't tramlining and trying to kill me...

Spent all morning detailing the car then fitted the new RS style badge and a few stickers here and there, pretty disappointing with the CS Sport sticker I received in my membership pack. No matter what I did, the letters just wouldn't bond to the glass, ended up screwing it after spending about 15 minutes trying to apply it!

Renault Sport sticker on bonnet, really liking this! It doesn't look that great on the pictures but once I get some "proper photos" taken I think it will look a lot better

And during the cleaning of my car my sister showed up and managed to scuff the bumper with her handbag... luckily I had my buffer out so after a few passes we were all good again!

Thanks for looking! I have just bought myself a new DSLR camera (D3200 for those who happen to give a f**k), I was going to take the car out for a spirited drive today but completely forgot I was going out for dinner at 4pm. So once I find some time over the next week I will upload some much better photos.

  Titanium 182
Yea I've been trying to keep the car off the road as the lower ball joint was getting dangerous lol, all sorted now though!

Managed to snap a few better pics tonight of the car, plus another from the interior that doesn't make that sticker look huge (although yea it is a bit too big for where it is)
@Lawro , she's still sittin' pretty!

Crappy update:

Car passed it's MOT with 2 advisories. Looks like a warped front disc so a new set of Brembo HC's will be on order soon. Also I have a coolant leak, it looks like it's probably from the water-pump but I'm hoping it's something a little easier. Annoyingly I've only just (March) has a brand new one fitted... Going to find the source and if it turns out to be water-pump then it will be going back to the garage for a replacement.

Full service weekend after next and then I am contemplating going down the weight reduction route. I am thinking a full rear strip down and then picking up a rear strut brace and some 3 point harnesses for me seats. I know this won't save me much weight but every little helps and since owning the car I've had a total of 2 people in the back! After this I think a remap is in order.

  Titanium 182
Does anybody know what might cause coolant to drop to the minimum mark but then no lower? Obviously I have a leak somewhere but find it odd the tank doesn't completely empty!

That head unit looks really good actually, not usually a fan of aftermarket HU's but that fits in nicely...is that the DAB version? Fancy upgrading myself, need something with iPod connectivity, sick of having to bring cd's in the car.

Not the DAB version no, I thought about it for a while but then given the amount of time I actually listen to the radio decided it wasn't worth it. The connectivity is brilliant though, just get in the car and let the BT connect and you're sorted. They also supply a little microphone to mount and make your hands free calls. Then just choose the right colour to keep dat oem feel.

Gave her a service today, she is about to hit the big 80k! Last full service was done only 4k miles ago so it's more of a pampering. The air filter was so clean I never even replaced it...
She was running ds2500 pads up front which were squealing like a pig and also grinding at slow speeds. If that wasn't annoying enough, they didn't quite fit the calipers and would really smack around when hitting the brakes. Fitted some minted pads, much better!

Such a shame to see those pads go to waste, loads of meat left on them. But they don't fit the standard calipers well at all. Full 2 days detail coming up next weekend, looking forward to it.

  Titanium 182
Also, I thought while I was replacing the air filter that I would clean the throttle body... it looked fresh out the box lol. @Lawro you really did keep this car immaculate!

  Titanium 182
Gave the car a "mini detail" today (just the exterior:monkey:). Such a lovely colour in the sun! After washing I clayed her and then finished with AF Triple and AF Tough Coat. Also gave the seats some attention as the driver side was getting a little grubby. Pictures don't do it justice but she was gleaming today, very proud of this car. Just about to hit 80k miles and 11 years old, she's a beaut.

My headlights had begun getting a horrible yellow tint to them and were in need of a restore. Didn't bother with a kit as I've already got quite various grit sandpaper, DAS-6 DA and polishes.
I didn't think it would need too much wet sanding so I went with 800 grit followed by 1200. On final inspection it could be better so I'll probably have another go soon with 600. Overall pretty happy with it though! MOT has been done so sidelights back out again:wink:, really glad I managed to drop one back into the headlight housing though, really pleasing.
So for headlights I used 800 & 1200 grit sandpaper. Then I finished with Menzerna 400 on a cutting pad, finished with Menzerna 2200 on a finishing pad. Sealed up with AF Tripple & AF Tough Coat, Enjoy
