More updates and many pics.
So i got the RB in work to start the paintwork. We decided that seen as the bodywork was in good condition barring the issue, it didn't need filler work. What we did was grind out all the rust, primered the area and blended it in. Sounds a bit half arsed but i didn't want to do extra work if it wasn't needed. I'm not going for a show queen car, i just want the rust gone before we have anymore issues. Ill be honest, i cant even tell where the rust was before or even where its been blended so im happy with that.
We also did the fuel cap area too as that have some very small patches.
Rear bumper being done also.
And in the booth.
We finished around 12pm friday night and decided to leave it until sunday morning before we fitted it up. No pics of that process but i got a shot after it was all back together outside the workshop. We had a mk1 escort in and i thought this was a cool shot.
Its not been flatted or polished yet. Although its a colour match, it does seem a tad darker compared to the door. i'm hoping that its just against faded light on the old panels and with a decent flat and polish and a polish of the other panels, it'll be sweet.
I bought a 2nd hand non sport stereo to it. Mine was sticky as hell so i gave it a good scrub to remove the stickiness, which worked but it looked s**t, which i knew it would. This didnt bother me as i knew the replacement would only be a few days before it arrived.
Non sport head unit arrived.
I read that non sport head units dont work in sports, but the faces are the same so thats what i bought it for. So i removed the old one, got them on the bench and swapped over the faces.
And fitted. No more stickiness and it matches the rest of the non sport stuff ive swapped over too.
All that was left to do was the climate control panel. Although i had a non sport, as you can see it was black and i wanted grey.
I had leftover paint so im going to get my front bumper done as it has chips and scuffs all over. I bought a new fabia splitter to fit when its been painted. Annoyingly my current was fitted by someone else and they fitted it from the end, so one end is a nice finish and the other end is cut. The new one will be fitted from the center outwards and cut either ends.
I also bought a new number plate light to replace the old one. TBF the old one wasnt that bad but i got excited because i had new paintwork. I've yet to fit this.
And i treated the RB to the best of the smellies.
My old parcel shelf rattled. Not sure where, but the fitting was never great, even with the foam strip mod. I managed to find one for sale on here from
@edwarj123 and fitted it. Fits a treat and no more rattles. Well its a renault, so it just means one less rattle!
I also wanted to order some new brakes as i wasn't getting the performance i liked out of my old ones. I wanted to get rid of the Pagid road pads i had, but didn't want to fork out for new DS2500's at £130, plus i've had them before so wanted to try something different. Contemplated PBS pads but they were more track focused and being a daily on white wheels, id like something that gives off less dust, so i opted for Mintex M1144's. My discs have never been changed in my ownership so i wanted new discs too while doing the pads so i got some trusty Brembo HC discs. The rear discs was only replaced last year so i just bought pads for the rear. While i was ordering, i though it was best to change the lambda sensor as the eml light kept coming on. I ran a decat and have the sensor in the heat shield and every now and again, the light comes on for a day or 2 and then goes, but this was on permanently. My little ODB reader clarified it was the post cat sensor. A quick message to the trusty
@George@RTR_Parts and all of the above was ordered. As always, the service was spot on both in advice and price and the delivery was prompt. He has a great reputation and i've used him for year and i would preach if you haven't already, to do the same if you require brakes, sensor or powerflex stuff ?
My exhaust was souning terrible and i needed one sooner rather than later. I did contemplate buying new but decided i'd look second hand to save some money. A ktec Ultra exhaust + decat came up from
@Russ Rallye and a few messages of enquires and i bought it. Its dented on the center secton but not seen once fitted. Plus i didnt really want slash cut tailpipes and these arent. I'd seen 2 others for sale and they was the same price but no center section, which i wanted. All paid for and it turned up a few days later.
I gave it a good clean with a drill, variuos wheels and metal polish. Came up pretty good. I used a scoth pad and degreaser for the pipes to remove some of the tarnish.
I managed to find a grey non sport climate control panel. The buttons were worn but my current ones were decent so i swapped the faces and buttons over.
I also ordered some Brass bushes for my BMS shifter from
@Yanoo as i was told they was better than the standard ones. Stayed behind after work on friday and decided too fit the exhaust and bushes while the ramp was free.
You can see it was blowing here too. Needed changing for a while but there was no point until now really.
It was a cheap made system which i've always known. Had to take a grinder to it as the center section was all one piece. Came off easy.
Another crack. This is what caused it to have a horrible rattle at 2k.
And next to the replacement. I thought the old system was 2.25" but was actually a 2"! The ktec is 2.5" all the way through.
While the system was off i fitted the brass bushes
