just a few mk1 172 questions.

My car is quite noisy on idle, whuring sounds, is this normal?
Idle is a little lumpy and aslo lumpy when holding revs in nutral, again is this normal?

On inspection to find out what the noises were i found what seemed to be one of the radiator brackets, L-shaped piece of metal with a square rubber bush on one end, wedged inbetween the back of the atlernator and an A/c hose, but all rad brackets are accounted for... so where has this come from? it also had burring along one edge and i think it may have been snapped.
i'll post pic in a bit.

car has done 53k.

also does a mk1 172 have a cast exhaust maifold?

they all sound like that from what i can guess from your description.

mine's the same.

idle is all over the place. roll on summer.

the idle on mine is the same , dont think the exhaust is cast, but i'm not sure

just wondered, as i had a look around the engine and the exhaust looked a bit fancy.... used to a 1.2 you see

Mine idles fine too.

Sounds a little rough when very cold mind you. Glad it seems to be normal!

the milkfloat noise is a worn pully. get it changed

Mine sounds great on tickover, the prospeed burble drowns out the engine rattle
