Hi. Just picked up a mint 04 plate 182 cup. Absolutly love the car. Just a quick question. I went to start it before and where it reads the oil level on the dash it flashed up with _ _ _ _ _. Then the service light came and stayed on???? Its recently been serviced so i think its a bit odd. It was parked on a slight hill wether that has caused it to come on. Any ideas please.

lol check ya dip stick, sounds like they forgot 2 fill it bak up, lets hope damage hasnt been done

I suspect they havnt sone the sump plug back up properly. Just the service light or did it come on with the oil can light too?

It's worthwhile mentioning, never rely on the car to tell you if it has oil in it or not, always check the dipstick.

doesnt that mean that its oil level is correct or is that 00000?

I think thats correct it is was low it would be _ _ _ _ (4 lines instead of 5 or less if the oil was really low)

Went to the car this morning and everything seems okay. And the oil level is spot on, i checked the dipstick. How strange.

If you mean the little orange coloured gearbox/engine light at the bottom right of the dash I wouldn't worry a huge amount. Mine has been coming on and off for about 2 years and I have never had a problem lol.

Apparently a sensor went and even after getting it changed it still did it. Mine is going to get serviced next month so I will get them to take another look then.

Yes bens being a tit!!;) Its probably the oil level sensor they are notourious for being unreliable have a search around I can't remeber where the sensor is off the top of my head.

No, this lad Ben knows that I know because his sister used to ring the bells at my local church, he had a Lotus Elise that was short on oil, he took it to the dealer to get it topped up and ended up doing 6 weeks for hendling stolen goods...

I'd get it down to the woods tonight and light it up. Otherwise you could be screwed!!

Ive just joined the forum and have asked a genuine question ref the car. As ive not had one before, was looking for advice, not comedy. Never had this problem on other forums. Do you have to be a certain age/mentality to be a member on here?

the oil thing i would worry my 172 does it and if its on a flat and does it i just chuck alittle in if its on a hill i wait until its been on a flat then check it again
but nothing to worry about mate unless you start to lose power or something then start :)
