Just had a new cat fitted - is this normal?

Hi just had a new catalytic converter fitted. Now ive only done a few miles and was told to take it slow which i am. Is it notmal to smell of burning after the run?

Also at 2-3k (not been higher) it sounds raspy and a bit louder? Is this normal?

That sais performance and mpg is back to normal

might be a bit of manufacturing oil on the metal. shouldn't take long to stop smelling though. Loudness might be due to the old one being blocked

Reckon its ok then? Its like a raspy noise. Sounds good lol but obviously its not meant to sound like that?

Free and my Mrs Dad did it, Which is why I wwanna check before taking it back to him after he has spent half his day going to get it all and sorting it out for me.

Right. Just took it for a drive. Just normal driving. Done 12 miles now. Got upto 70mph and its silent. Im getting 20mpg more than normal.

However its still scraping/barking/rasping in 1st and 2nd gear between 2-3k. When pulling off or going down gears to come to an island? It sounds like its decatted in 2nd gear between 2-3k only lol?

I reckon it's the exhaust heatshield. Perhaps it's been knocked out of place during fitting... try bending it away from the exhaust a little. It'd made from tin foil so shouldn't be too hard.

Most likely this, bolt fell off mine, started making those sounds.

Get under the car while someone dabs the throttle. Put your hand over the tailpipe and do the blowing test etc
