Just get a new engine. £275 for a 75k ph1.

Sure Fred would quote for the labour of the transplant. Job done.

+ the cam/aux kit changes, plus labour, not far off freds £1250 tbh, and you know the engine is good (well you might)

Or do it all yourself.
Or just scrap it and get something else.
Or just ring Fred and close thread.

Only just noticed where you are.

You don't know, you're right, but is the car still a 'stop gap'? mine is, so i took the gamble to get another engine and i was lucky enough to the hear it running (still sat in the car at the scrappers) and so have a bit of peace of mind. Still, we changed the belts before it went anywhere near the car. It works fine, pulls ok and so for now, all good.

RS tuning, probably not that 'wing' of the company, sure Paul's dads place do that sort of stuff (and good at it, had a few bits done there and they know what they're doing).

I got my engine from these lot: http://www.mirfieldmotorspares.co.uk/

I know a guy who does recovery on the cheap for cash. Getting the car to Fred, might be cheaper than you think.

You could buy some recovery with relay and homestart (around £50)

Wait a week or 2, then get them to take it to fred's/any garage you want as it has only just gone on you on your drive hasn't it ;)

Would never recommend doing that though, no, never.

i already used my recovery 2nite to get it home.lol so dont think ill get away with that one.

@ Donny dog, i dont know what you mean 'is it still a stop gap?' if you mean just a car to put me on then no i never mentioned it was anything of the sort. its a keeper ,for a few years anyway ,so for what its worth ill be well out of pocket if i just get shot of it so best to just get it repaired. just a t**t been so near crimbo ect. plus got trip to barcelona at xmas to pay for so its come at the wrong time..
just to add insult to injury ,the tax is due at the end of this month aswel and i dont have a garage ,drive or private road to keep it on, so got no choice but to pay out fot it to be taxed...but thats just story of my life with bad/unfortunate luck. lol

If you have nationwide/relay recovery then you can call them out again to take you to any garage.

Done it before myself, since you cant always arrange the garage immediately but you need to get home that night! Breakdown didn't say anything, just did it :)

to be honest it works out about the same for an engine swap (depending on cost of the engine) Vs a head rebuild

you know what, you could argue the cold temps don't help, plastic idlers/cambelt do get warm, then when the engine is off will cool to -3 or whatever, maybe the extra stress from the slightly more extreme heat cycles unfortnatley helps older cambelt kits to fail

Let me know if you fancy selling it as a non runner... I'll pick it up no worries, parents live in Bingley so wouldn't be an issue ;)

Sorry, it was another thread that a guy called it a stop gap, my apologies.

Sell it as a non-runner and get another one? do the maths of the engine cost vs money you'd get for it scrap against another one. You can get ph1's dirt cheap.
