Just put deposit on a 172cup

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi guys I'm returning my ford galaxy far a refund on my deposit due to gearbox problems. A friend told me about a Clio for sale and it was a decent car in his opinion (he's a mod nut) so after a quick run in it I put down a deposit as I won't have the cash until I get money back on the galaxy.

It's a 172 cup not until September and tax until April 73k miles just had belts done but not really any other history :(
But at £1400 it seems a decent buy, but its only really to put me on and looking at prices of them round here I don't think I will lose cash on it

Thanks guys the stickers will defiantly be going :) don't remember where the belts got done but I will be checking and maybe get them done again just to be sure.
I don't need the 7seats but I could do with something bigger to tow the caravan although the Mrs want to put it on a site for the summer (if we get one) so could always get a friend to take it to the site for us.

My oldest lad (15) thinks its great that I'm nearly 40 and buying my first hot hatch lol

Wait and see who did them first you might be ok if done correctly by someone with the right tools. Id only use your mechanic if he has experience with them and has all the correct locking tools.

Just going to see how things go as I know nothing about them lol I know it needs a steering wheel as its falling apart on the thumb pad, its got a stainless steal exhaust and I think the anti roll bar has polly bushes. I also noticed that the headlights look to be covered in lots of fine scuffs, not sure if this is a problem but will look into it

As above mate rstuning in leeds. Ignore the scare mongers and see who did it in the first place.

Remember if a trader on here hasn't done the belts everyone will says done

Welcome mate, as said I'd personally lose the stickers, lower it, clear side indicator covers, smaller ariel and it'll look spot on.

Looks a decent buy for the money,

RS Tuning or RS Murray in Leeds for the belts/a check over- if they've been done properly with correct tools and that then don't obviously do it for the sake of it.

Car looks like a good base!
What price are you looking at for the belts to be done on a 182FF, think it is more than the 172 CUP?

As said, check where the belts have previously been done.

Mine was on a 15,000 mile cambelt but I got dephaser rattle, and when I took it to a specialist (Fred@BTM) he shown me the tippex marks that told both me and him that it had been "Tippex timed" previously by the garage that did the belt change.

Due to this, my exhaust cam was out. Runs so much better now the belts and dephaser were done properly, the 5K kick blew my mind on the way home with my properly timed engine.

As its a Cup, it will cost less to do the belts as they don't have to work around the A/C.

I was in exactly the same situation when he did mine. It had been previously fitted by a well known specialist before previously!

Best to get in touch with them mate for current prices as was a couple of years ago when I got mine done. But yes the 182s will be dearer due to the air con set up .

  Flame 172 (Ph2)
As a very rough guide, a competitive price (inc Club Member Discount) for Cam & Aux Belts with all tensioners and Pulleys, Dephaser AND Oil & Oil Filter change are:

With Air Con - £560/£570 inc VAT
No Air Con - £360/£400 inc VAT

You may have to drive for prices like that though, just factor in fuel and work out overall cost.

  Clio RS 172 /Trafic
RS Tuning know what they're doing. Highly recommended. Looks a very tidy car. I'm 55 and bought mine 4 years ago. It's the best fun I've had in years owning the Clio. I've got 3 daughters who all have boyfriends and they're all well impressed that I own a 172. Not surprised your son likes the car. I've done 19 trackdays in mine and it's really reliable. Enjoy!!

Another one in the area. Great stuff. You'll have to get your self down to one of the meets.

  Clio 172 Cup
Where and when are the local meets? I might just get myself alone and I might even bring my camera lol

  pimp mobile Zafira
Have a look in the local meets section. There's nothing penned in as yet. There is a thread asking for suggestions for meets this year.
