k-tec dogbone mount results..

After my last thread about the dog bone mount i decided to bite the bullet as it where and ordered it (baasically just a powerflex mount)

Took it to the garage to get it fitted aswell as fixing a worn ball joint. Got a phone call to say that they couldnt do the dog bone as they had never seen such a thing before (the powerflex type not a dog bone)

So i picked up the car and thought f**k it ;) cant be that hard..

Took about 2 hours as there was a b*****d bolt that wouldnt loosen without extreme persuation, and the big rubber bush on it was a git to remove. The mount was quite worn by the looks of it. took some pics before/after .. looks much better ;)

1st pic you can clearly see the dog bone wasnt sitting correctly on the bush.. it was actually on the car like that.. 2nd pic shows the full thing removed. 3rd pic shows the new powerflex bushes in place, 4th pic shows it fitted.

The new ball joint got rid of that annoying clunking sound when turning and going over a small pothole, but the dog bone mount has made a huge difference, there is no engine banging at all no matter what I try to do to get it to bang ! I also had a funny noise when accelerating quickly (but not floored) that sounded like a tyre loosing grip even though it wasnt, this is now completly cured aswell. As previously stated in other threads you do get a bit more vibration when at idle comming through the car as the mount is much stiffer but nothing major..

All in all very happy with it !

It was reading your thread/experience that made me go for it... very happy indeed and the increase amount of idle vibrations is cool.. makes you think your in a american muscle car or something heh.

Thanks spott..

Need the number of that mobile fitter as got to get the dampers fitted and also bought braided brake hoses that need fitted aswell, dont fancy touching the brake system as its a bit 'needed' and i'll fook it up for sure. Could do the dampers myself as I fitted the springs myself.. although I did fit one of the rear ones upside down   (dont think it makes a difference) but I may aswell get it all done at the same time.

Just fitted the powerflex kit to my dog bone mount thisafternoon. Getting the old bushes out was a bit of a pain! I removed the small one by cutting quite a bit of it away with a stanly knife (now have several small puncture wounds on my fingers and thumbs!) and levering it out with a large screwdriver. The larger one i removed by supporting the bone on a workmate and hammering the metal part of the bush... once it started to move it came out quite quickly. Putting the new bushes in was much easier, just pressed them in place with the trusty workmate.

Went and found some quiet roads to try a few fast starts with a little bit of wheelspin and wow - the difference is fantastic! Banging is greatly reduced (not completely but new top engine mounts should hopefully sort that) - would have fitted those today aswell but my local renault dealer's parts dept is cosed for a stock take today grrrr!

Very pleased with the results, could never have done any quater mile runs in my car before cos the banging on wheelspin would have been embarrasing... Now I feel like i can 'enjoy' my car so much more! As for the extra vibration... love it! Its nothing major but certainly feels more sportscar-like. Its most noticeable on startup and feels kinda cool!

*********just a note************

along with replacing the dog bone mount always do this

to stop banging in "Most cases"

on the top mount there are 4 bolts slacken these 4 bolts so there heads are not in contact with the mount

then take a bar of sum sort and wedge it between the top mount and strut housing. (be carful not to damage a.c pipe on ff models)

push the mount as far forward as possible!!!!(towards the head lights)

then tighten the 4 bolts up nice and tight..

Job Done

TRUST ME!

Nice one, I had already made the adjustment mentioned above to the top mounts so maybe thats why my car doesnt bang at all now..

Ye, am quite liking the extra feel you get of the engine now :D
