K-Tec exhausts? no thanks.

had so many problems with it, and only been on a month, wondering if anyone else had similar experiences?

1. the centre section was about a foot short of the cat (so had to get a new peice of s/s welded on to make it fit)
2. my original renault hangers needed to be replaced with new ones (fair enough, they're 6-7 years old)
3. the flex on the cat also had to be replaced for a s/s version to stop the exhaust from twisting
4. the hangers which k-tec supplied have now fallen off leaving the exhaust resting on the rear axle. (pictured)

going back to get this (hopefully) fixed tomorrow [all fitting work has been carried out by a stainless steel exhaust specialist]

My old one...Tight as a nut to the bumper.

Got the stealth now on my 172. cracking fit too.

sat nice and tight for a wee while, and there's no problems as regard to fitting, as the garage is held in very high regard.

considering writing an email/letter to ktec, but there's every chance i might have to send it back or whatever, and I can't afford to go without an exhaust for any period of time.

highlighted the bit where its resting against the axle, and one of the supports that has simply came out.

my k tec exhaust on my mk1 has NEVER fitted properly. it rattles on the heat shield, and rear axle, and works itself loose about once every 3 months. it does sound nice, but it will be going as soon as i can afford to replace it.
the blokes that fitted it, also commented on its poor design, and wasnt sure that i had brought one that was made for a clio at 1st!

My K-tec Stealth is a nice fit and doesn't bang on anything....I did have to modify the OE exhaust hangar though so it didn't knock.

Nice and light so no issues with hangars.....IMHO the larger, twinpipe exhaust made for the 172 are much too heavy for the stock mounts.

yeah i think its far too heavy too, but then its apparently designed for a clio, and my hangers are all brand new. It was twisting like anything too before I got the new stronger flexi pipe.

any suggestions with the refit? to strengthen it likes, so this doesnae happen again. (also, its only been on for just over a month)

True

My Steath was fitted properly but was still sightly the wrong length so the backbox bracket banged.

That pic looks pretty serious though as is down to weight/movement of the box

David @ k-tec is very helpful, give him a call. People on here will slate k-tec for no apparent reason.

If your not far away he will 9 times out of 10 fit it for you Properly for nothing.

tbh that looks as if the exhaust rubber mounts are the wrong type...

rubber mounts have all been replaced for brand new renault parts. they caused the problems i had to start with, but then it was all refitted, and now the hangers have fallen off completely.

K-tec DO get slated at times. But they are helpful when you have problems. Its the issue with buying stuff off the shelf by mail order.

My boyfriend fitted my stealth exhaust quite easily, and touch wood its been spot on. So I'm hoping things continue to run smoothly.
Sounds nice too!

Sorry to hear of the problems.

I had my stealth fitted at KTec last month and no problems as yet, slightly louder than expected.

Yeah....I have seen quite a few threads with some slating going on.

I wasn't bothered by the knocking...just looked at it, took the bracket off and used a round file to lengthen the slots in the bracket so it would shift further away from the BB hangar.

I've brought a few parts from K-tec and found them to be okay.

love mine just whish it didnt bang like a b**ch on the boot floor pan, had it refitted a few times cant get it right but sounds fit so im not bothered

The impression of one i took off of a 172 (not mine i hasten to add) was that it wasnt upto much. Thumbs down from me.

i like mine too

mine is right up against the bumper and altho its not gr8 fit but thats down to renaults designers.....

How can the poor fit be blamed on Renault ? If they had designed the car to fit the exhaust they could be blamed for the K-tec not fitting well. But the exhaust was made to fit the car so any poor fit is down to poor design on the exhaust.

you guys should get intouch with rms in prestwick, they make custom 316 marine stainless steel exhausts i had one on my toyota starlet front to back cost approx £350 when the time comes i will be going there to get a system can make them as loud or a quite as you want.

i was only refering to the poor mount so it moves about a bit over bumps which the original one would of done if it was visible out the back

sure they could make new mounts to fix the exhaust properly but u gotta do the best with what uve got to keep costs down

from looking at the pics in this thread it seems the "band" around the back box hasnt been twisted around the back box to lift it up....... where u located sharpie?

my seats are held in with cable ties, and the doors, steering wheel....everything else has just been licked and stuck on.

ive had 2 K-Tec systems.... both have fitted spot on with no problems whatsoever.

pic of my 1st one, same as yours :

on standard Renault mounts. The difference being, it was fitted properly by K-Tec themselves.

after this one, i had a K-Tec oval system and that fitted spot on too... :)

It annoys me when people complain about a company when they shouldnt. Its clearly evident from your pics and your post that the system hasnt been fitted properly.

It's posts like these that get me worried(not your's fubar).:S

But still soooooo excited that I am getting a noisy exhaust.:D

cheers for the info guys, a was wonderin how everyone else was gettin on ;)

i stay in scotland, and got my exhaust fixed today by dave at sounds of silence in bo'ness. turns out the nuts had been stripped off, so now ive got some locking nuts and washers on that really wont come off in a hurry, and yep... some cable ties.

im really happy with the sound and that of my exhaust... but the dave commented on the poor fit and quote "worst exhaust ive ever seen... if someone comes in with a ktec exhaust and asks me to fit it, i'll say no"

but at the end of the day its all down to personal experiences.

I think your right when you say about personal experiences.

I'm sure sometimes the welder comes into work a bit half cut and knocks out a few bad systems hence some fitting badly.

Just been out in my 172 with Stealth fitted and it just sounds better and better plus it hasn't fallen off yet which is nice:D

when i had one it was fitted by KTEC and it knocked like hell, ended up having a mate to adjust it, there was always a slight knock, i found that if you didnt have anyone sit in the back it was ok :)
