Only thing i can think is if your pushing the calipers back in and you need to allow fluid through the abs pump. But i've never been told it or seen it needing the key.
I didn't think it was needed tbh but I saw this link then thought about it. I've only ever put the key in the igniton to release the steering so i can turn the hubs when changing brakes.
Correct, makes no difference to the hydraulic side of things at all. I leave the key in but the ignition off just to keep the steering lock off so I can spin the hub to get to the bolts more easily.
