Knock in the steering column at standstill

Hello,

My 172 ph2 has a knock coming up through the steering column when the steering wheel is rocked. It is most noticeable when the engine is off.

I have disconnected the track rod ends from the hub to take the pressure off the steering rack and my problem still persist.

Is it common for the universal joint in the steering column to develop play on these? The only other option it could then be would my steering rack. Again, is this a common replacement part or are they pretty solid?

To rule out the lesser of the 3 problems to have, get these. It doesnt take long for the powerflex rack bushes to develop play so I wouldnt entertain anything other than these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clio-RS-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

If he's disconnected the rods there will be minimal stress on the bushes. I don't think it's that.

True. The racks arnt a lifetime part, I would know this far too well unfortunately.
