Korky's Ph1

Titanium Ph1 172

I haven't really updated this in a while due to a few things, and fell out of love with it.

Firstly, the garage got broke into and my cams ready to Go in and a few other nice bits were taken, along with all my tools and motocross gear. As you can imagine the insurance paid out for as little as yeh could and car parts weren't under the policy agreement apparently!

Work commitments have also been really high at the minute with a plant shutdown coming up and studying a degree part time.

Recently I thought about selling in honesty but talked myself out of it after taking her over the moors for the day and having some fun.

On that note, I bought another winged seat, however trying to get the thing in has set me back a little. I need to modify the mount or stagger the seats an inch or two. As it stands a passenger one won't fit in directly next to the drivers.

I am also in the process of buying some new wheels just unsure as to what I actually want.

I also bought a flocked dash and a pillars, it seams to of cured a few of those noises you usually can't find to cure too! I do enjoy the feel of it as well!

I have a filter relocation to fit today to so that the filter sits behind the front head light, pre-modified the head light bracket already too!

New rear disks and pads ready for winter to put on as one of my bearings seams to be abit loud.

I will update with photo's when I get chance too, hopefully!

Re: Titanium Ph1 172

Braided lines and a full system flush with ate super blue and the breaks feel incredible!

Also have a lightened flywheel and new clutch to go in when I get chance, but I have to rectify some little idle gremlins first. The ph1 has a mind of its own!

I attended a rolling road day but the car kept spinning on the rollers as the hancook v12 tread blocks have gone super hard. A set of federal rs-r's have been ordered which us just what it needs!

Pictures soon!

Re: Titanium Ph1 172

Kris Dark it does haha!

So had a little trip to Milton Keynes this week whilst I was off to pick some oz ultralagarra's up 15x7 and they weigh around 5kg a wheel which feels like nothing. Just waiting for the rsr's to turn up now!

Ordered a set of carbon centre caps too so hopefully they will arrive shortly

Had a few cans of titanium paint mixed by halfrauds and started to go over them untill I decide to get them done properly or not.

Tyres arrived yesterday so I finished painting the wheels and got them fitted, will get Pics of them on the car once the weather clears up!

Seeing this thread made me buy my ph1 172..it sits perfect on the f1s not a fan of turbines but stil looks great!
The time and dedication you have put into it is outstanding fair play mate

Quick question was there much hastle/work in fiting the ph2 dash and 197 steering wheel?do they both fit ok?

Cheers mate, really appreciate that!

The ph2 dash will physically bolt in but you need to change a few wires over on the heater control panel, there's a guide in the members area for the full conversion.

The 197 wheel needs a little tab removing off the back of it then it's just a simple bolt on job

Re: Titanium Ph1 172

Looking great as always mate even better now it has some nice sticky rsr's on:evil:

Cheers mate! Still waiting for centre caps to arrive

Tyres make a massive difference, never drove it feeling so good!

Starting painting the interior, will get it done properly when the car goes in for paint.

Will get Pictures at some point

Re: Titanium Ph1 172

So PH2 boot,

What wires did you use? Did you manage to get the wiring out of the ph1 boot and put it into the ph2 boot?
Take it you use the ph2 locking mechanism? Are the plugs the same?

As you can guess I have one but didnt look into the fitting of it so need to know whats what lol

Cheers

Just pulled the ph1 wires through using a piece of spare wire I threaded through the ph2 boot lid.
As far as I can remember the wires are the same dude.
And yep, use the ph2 locking mechanism, hope this helps!

Re: Titanium Ph1 172

So pretty big update really....

Over the past few months I've been building an engine ready for boost, ph1 172 block and head, megane internals, arp fasters. The intention was to run around 280/300hp which I think is the most power if ever want in a fwd car!

The spec was engine above, engine dynamics log manifold and turbo, custom 2.5" intercooler pipework & intercooler, custom downpipe, 490cc injectors, forge 002 valve, adaptronic standalone management system, helix 4 paddle clutch!

I set about putting the new engine in and it pretty much went ok, however after warming up for the first time the engine stopped dead almost asif there was a electrical fault! as you can imagine I was pretty pissed off at this point and couldn't fathom what was wrong! after a couple of hours trying sensors/checking timing etc we decided to try turn it over manually by hand, 2ft breaker bar and 2 15 stone guys putting pressure on it and it wouldn't budge.

The inevitable happened, that engine came back out! we stripped the sump off and began to check everything over only to find that big end bearing 1 had seized solid! swarf that appears to have come from the oil gallery had caused this.

I have am eating with the machine shop today to discuss why they haven't provided the service I have paid for and why dead was left in the gallery! Pretty furious to be honest!

At this point my head was up my arse and I was about to give up boost all together but with a bit of help from friends I decided to boost the standard ph1 engine untill I had sorted the other engine.

So a new cambelt was put on my engine and the sump pulled off so the block could be drilled and tapped for the oil return from the turbo and we set about putting it all back in!

Yesterday I went up to Andy's (ClioTurbo.co.uk) the have the adaptronic installed and base map, currently mapping looks like it will be next week after we cancalled my slot on Thursday due to the other engine seizing!

I'll update this after mapping with numbers. Tap stalk won't let me upload photo's anymore so I'll get some up when I'm on the computer next!

Big thanks to Owen, Andyrg, kris, Craig, Thirkell and James (most are on here) for there efforts this week, I would of been riding the gsxr about instead if not!

I will be building the engine up again and most likely modifying the spec a little!

  PH1 loads of boost!
Good work! Was gonna tell you to straighten the intercooler until I saw that last front end shot. Looks tidy.

cheers guys, Has been a love/hate relationship with this car! but feels like its worth it now.
WilkyWay it was mounted over to one side at first for ease of boost pipe routing but after getting grilled about it off a few people i moved it to the centre and modified the pipework to suit.

Does anyone have a problem with a really hot engine bay with turbo'd clio's? Any solutions?

  PH1 loads of boost!
You'd be able to put some sort of vent in the bonnet to pull the air out when driving along. Mine does get hot but nothing to worry about. As long as your intake temps are good and nothing is melting then you should be alright.
Have a look over to Durham if you like, luckily the number 1 Clio turbo specialist in the country is just along the road from you ;) ClioTurbo.co.uk

WilkyWay, inlet temps arnt too bad mate its just the actual heat in the bay when sat still that concerns me, i may remove some of the black front frill and just try get a bit more air in there on the move too!
Tom-173, andy did it for me mate but with the pin out diagram it wouldnt be difficult at all!

Had a few hours spare last night and after spending a small fortune with swisswax at the weekend at vw festival it was time to give the ph1 a bit of a detail, will upload photo's when i get chance.

I have to say though Swisswax's wax's are by far the best ive ever used, definetly worth the money!

So the car was mapped over at efi parts this week, it made 227bhp and 206ft/lb torque, the power delivery is unbelievable, it almost drives like na the boost is set up that well. Opted for a mac 3 port solenoid valve controlled by the ecu so that it wasn't just actuator controlled.

Anyway, today I had a few issues to sort, an oil leak coming from Vvt solenoid a bracket for the mac valve and brake ducts to fit.

Just waiting for harnesses to arrive now as I'm running both the wrap round seats, will get a few pictures tomorrow but I have a few daft ones for now .

Photo of how the bay currently looks, note the map feed for ecu, fpr and dump valve now all have there own barbed fittings

Pick of brake ducts too

Now I need to decide if I'm painting the wheels satin black or anthracite
