When you say the headlight fixtures have snapped, is the unit still sealed? If it is I would just Araldite it or maybe bodge a bracket from aluminium if it is out of sight.

Don't bother repairing it until the winter's over mate.... this one will be particularly bad fron what I hear.

I know it's a big shame... but at least it's only a little fender bender... I recon £500.

Bummer :(

ABS wont stop you on ice either though. The Cup is much better in snow than a 172/182.

Agreed.....my dynamique was dangerous last winter in the ice/snow....

Why? (seriously, I can't think of any reasons why it should be better or worse - apart from lack of ABS which as you say, wont really help stop you on ice anyway)

It's no better - but no worse for not having ABS.... You have to think how carefully you would drive on the ICE, then drive twice as careful again. Large contact area of tyre + very little weight + FWD = Eeeek!!

bumper off ebay £50, bodyshop to spray it £100, fit it yourself, so no more than £150
Not as bad as it looks.. but i agree with omar, wouldn't get it fixed for a few months yet..

ABS is definitely not good on ice! Had the 182 on an icy hill (going down the slope) last year, moving at walking pace - put the brakes on - damn ABS gives me NO brake effort whatsoever - so I'm actually speeding up with my brakes on! Ended up having to pull the handbrake to get it to stop, which was a little scary...
These kind of things make me wonder if ABS systems should have a winter override button as an option?

Does turning off the ESP turn off the ABS?

No.

Would you all agree that ESP helps on ice and snow?

did you watch the 5th gear when they went to see Bosch testing esp on ice and snow. Amazing. No matter how hard Tiff tried he always lost control on the snow with no esp. With it on he managed to turn at speed and did not lose control at all.

god what did we all do in the days before abs  really gets me this one, abs only helps you steer the car under heavy braking, as you can't steer if the front wheels are locked, it DOESNT reduce braking distance, and in ice/snow it makes no difference what so ever

my favorite lines

'cups don't have abs which is dangerous'

'its easier to crash a cup as it has no abs'

That could be smart repaired. Much easier than buying new panels, probably half the price as well.

was gona say, no need for a bumper. 150 - 200 max a gud shop

give clio spares in wolverhampton a ring, a front bumper in good condition around £100, front wing brand new gen renault £45, paint is around £47 a litre. id be tempted to paint it all myself if you have a dry and relatively warm garage or workshop, done it millions of times on my fiestas. in all honesty i wouldnt bother buying a new bumper, id take the one you have on off and clean it up. it looks as tho it will clean up easily, either with a dremel or a sanding drill bit to smooth out the scratches then use a few coats of bumper plastic primer to fill the scratches and then spray the corner bumper and try to blend it in. infact im sure they now do a polycarbonate filler which is specially designed for plastic to help it flex and not crack etc.. all in all its not a very expensive repair at all, if you dont want to do it yourself see if you can get a local bodyshop to try and blend the corner in to reduce costs and prep work.

A lot more idiots probably crashed with their front wheels locked up unable to steer!

I agree people should be able to drive properly, but in this day and age, how many non-car-enthusiasts would have the first idea what to do in a skid? ABS is there for those people so hopefully they can steer themselves off into a hedge or something soft ;)

abs is neither here nor there when its icy your still gonna slide if you going too quick! In fact ABS in a clio is probably niether here nor there, I had my ABS kick in prolly twice in two years of ownership

American cars sold in "the snow belt" as they call it have an ABS off button as far as i know.
I was in Cleveland, Ohio for 3 months this time last year (right on the edge of Lake Erie - lots of tales from colleagues about getting 5 feet of snow in the space of a couple of days!)
All the cars I've been in/hired out there have been bog standard - and having asked them about driving in snow with ABS, no-one mentioned cut-outs for ABS... Definitely a good idea IMO though. In snow in particular, you can just lock the wheels enough to build up a wedge of snow in front of the wheels, which can help to slow you a bit more (no good on ice though, that)...
Anyway, back on topic - sorry to hear about your bump, hope you get it fixed without too much of a pain in the wallet...
