Lacquer making paint VERY dark

Rob

Just finished the refurb on my wheels today, and was really happy until I applied the lacquer.

I chose a very nice bright silver etc, and was happy with how even the covering was... then today I came to lacquer it and it has gone VERY dark.

Is this going to become lighter as the lacquer totally dries?? Or am I screwed?

Any secret to make it ligher?

Of course lacquering will "darken" the paint job slightly, and produce a shiney effect when totally dry.

But was the paint completely dry when you applied the lacquer?

this happened on my wheels and always happens mate. even when painting panels. different makes of laquer differ in outcome.

The difference isn't slight though thats the thing. The paint had been on for about 28 hours. Maybe I shoulda left it like 2 days.

This is the difference between a proper bright silver and almost a very light grey....

I never took pictures before, but the difference is a bit more severe than that.

The initial colour is a lot lighter colour than yours but the end result is much the same.

Ah well, if there is nothing i can do about it I guess I'll just live with it. Cheers.

I would put up pics, but I forgot to take before pics :( idiot.

sometimes it happens mate. alot of colours that are painted onto cars at work dont match properly untill the laquer is applied.

Did u primer/paint and lacquer the center cap when it was on the wheel?

i painted the edges of the cap before i paint allt the wheel with the cap on and laquered when still on. i did spray a promoter(adhesive) on before i painted them though.
