leather - install ideas

  Stanced Honda S2000

hello all, got a quite sweet install now, just wanna sex it up. im thinking leather, but where do u get it from and is it dead expensive. im thinking black and silver leather coz i have a black clio with silver bits, the fitting wont be too hard i just need the materials and an industrial stapler. would it alter the sound in anyway, doubt it but this is what it looks like now.

this may sound harsh, but i must say it

a box with amp inside and amp bolted to the top is now a "quite sweet" install

firstly, you can get imitation leather that is not expensive and only upon closer inspection can you tell the difference

secondly, be creative, one twin box with a neon inside will not attract crowds at any shows (which im guessing is why you want to improve its looks) if you like i can do a couple of CAD designs for your install, working with MDF is very easy

and finally, changing the fabric on the outside of the box will not alter the sound one iota, although using rockford fosgate subs, i would hope that it would change (improve) the sound

cad designs ? i was just after hujj bass and thats what i got. im just trying to customise it a bit. i know its not over craetive but i aint a millionaire. installs cozt cash and cash i dont have (bought my own place) at the moment. i was thinking of puttin a bit more perspex on the top so u can see down onto the sub and as i said leather it.

CAD - Computer Aided Design

installs dont have to cost money, MDF is cheap, and a little more expensive is marine grade plywood (much better IMO)

realistically you could knock up a new install for less than £100 (framework and materials)

but dont subs have to have a cubic volume to stick to ? i quite like the box incase i have to take it out but have u nay ideas of personalising it ? where can u buy this fake leather from ?

how much does ingraving perspex cost ? thinking rocky fosgate across the top in perspex

i only know of fabric shops local to me, but no doubt some of your local knitting shops wil be able to source them for you

9 times out of 10 the box that is supplied with the sub is the wrong shape and size anyway

do you have the manuals for your subs? if so then it will have the cc/litres needed for the subs to operate to the manufacturers intended level, these can be altered to change the note of bass produced, its all trial and error

ie. the boston 8" i have requires a 0.3cu ft box minus the displacement of the sub, i was running a 0.2cu ft box and the sub sounded so much tighter, not as low (if possible for an 8"er) but far more controlled, tried the box with larger volumes and the sub sounded flappy

the best way to personalise them is to make your own, otherwise it just looks like any old box from any old dealer

yeah spose, i havnt got the manuals. all i know is its a rocky fosgate , 400watt rms or 500 rms, and its the PUNCH HE2 model .oh and they are 12inch. haha. im a dumb ass.

if you look on the rockford fosgate website and look for the pdf file of your sub, download it and refer to that for information

there is usually one on there

i tried to cover my last install in leather and found it really difficult, because its relatively thin it shows any imperfections in what your covering, just think it would be very difficult. as bam bam has said, you could work out the correct size of the boxs, then using an mdf framework, either cover it in a material or maybe fibreglassing it?? it looks superb and is relatievly easy to work with, then you could cover it or even spray paint it a cool silver or something, limits are only your imagination!! i reckon you could do the easily for £100, a big sheet of mdf from like b&q is like £20 and theyll cut it to size for you too. if you still wanna go for just covering, i went to a local re-trimming company (just look in yellow pages) and got some vinyl, looks just like leather but a 2x1 metre sheet cost me like £15!! cheers

ive just nearly finished my install now it looks quite nice ill post some pics if i can work out how, i used black carpet and green vinyl, i tried to do something a little different, the whole lot mdf and vinyl cost me less than £100 pound my vinyl was £47 for 1.5m x 3m, i can post the phone numbers if you want. see what you think when the pics go up.
