lifting the back inside wheel

ive seen loads of pics of the inside wheel lifting through a corner, and read about it lots with the clios.

Im not sure however when it happens?

You see I thought it would happen either:

1. on corners you break late into, or

2. those perfect corners you have when you are at the max speed poss and you somehow seem to get a sligshop through the corner.

The thing is - wouldnt you get lots of understeer instead of lifting the back wheel?

Could someone explain this to me please.

Characteristic of a live rear axel, will do it when you corner sharply.

It took me while to be able to this in my valver.

Ive now found a corner that i can pretty much get it to lift on everytime now!

Or is it something only seen/detected from outside?

It looks a bit like a puppy cocking its leg as its being pulled along on a lead to me!

Thats why a few owners call them Pup/Puppy/scamp/etc

Tom - wont you just understeer though? Or does it happen when you understeer?

If its tight and the tyres are squealing, pretty sure itll be lifting, I wanted an extended mirror, so I could see, but not very practical

I dont think it happened in my 172, as it just wasnt stiff enough. The first time I took the 182 out for a good thrash we stopped and y0z commented how often I was doing it. You can sort of feel it go when it does.

All i do is go into a corner fast giving it a bit of throttle, make sure its gripping tight and if it is, nail it!

Youll find 9 times out of 10 a wheel will rise.

Sweeping corners are easiest to do it on for me.

youll get a "thump" noise when the wheel landed back down to the road.


I often lift the rear wheels going through the S bends.
