List of 182 Cup packed Coilover options?

Looking at getting a set of coilovers for my 182 in the not too distant future.
Obviously with cup packs I'm much more limited in terms of options. Just wondered if we could get a list of the options you can have for 182 cups.
In all price ranges.

Current ones I'm aware of are:
K tec
Vmaxx (I think?)

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
what sort of budget are you on mate ? Spax have a good reputation for suspension set ups so should be good

ive only ever had APs though. well.....my new car has coilovers but im not sure what ones, should probably have a look

Danny has developed them so you need to get them through him. They are a good price for a set of 4 coilovers so support your cliosport traders!

With regards to the Bilsteins - you have to wait for Fred to finish his testing :D Should be good though!

B16 if you're mega rich

Oh and i've got Nick Yelloly (GP3 driver) lined up for a test too ;)

very nice indeed. b16's cup racer setup? I believe dyno cup was running rears at some point, or that was the plan any way.

aye it still is, we redesigned the rear lower damper mount (see that beefy b*****d in the picture) as the cup racer items had a habit of snapping, plus the "pressed insert" type dampers i'm not a fan of, especially after seeing several AST units fall apart

So how many of these AST bottom mounts fell apart and in what way fred? Can't see the pic here in work, but you've presumably just fitted a heavier duty balljoint compared to the cup series rears?

yeah its a mean b*****d!

Re AST, the pressed in rubber bush in the lower mount that bolts the the axle, well it stays bolted to the axle, but the damper pulls away from the bush! VERY dangerous! The eyelet the bush is pushed into is larger than the 18mm bolt, therefore if you pull hard enough you can pull the damper over the lower 18mm bolt!

meek racing should have pictures, i've seen 4 sets do this

I can take some pics if needed, otherwise cannot be arsed.

In regards to what Fred said, they are pressed in. The car has done several trackdays with no problem at all but I was shocked at the movement they give. Fred just tacked some washers onto the bolt to ensure it will never come off.

Every suspension kit i've ever fitted with this design I've added a washer to stop this happening. So many kits have these pressed hard rubber bushes bigger than the bolt holding them. I've seen them fail on BMW's, Peugeots and many others. Apex even told me you can solve it by only fully tightening the bolt up when the car is on four wheels but i'm not convinced. Washers are inexpensive and sort things nicely lol

Just wack a big boy washer on there. Job done ;)

Edit: just noticed Kams post.lol

Hadn't realised could be issues with the rubber bushes slackening off, cheers for the heads up. Washer on the bolt seems a straight forward enough fail safe :)

point being though, for a suspension kit costing a chunk of money it simply shouldn't happen, on a £180 set of coilovers i'd understand, but on a £1K set? No chance, that's piss poor IMO

same with everything, exhausts for example, a Miltek costs what? about £400? wonderful, it has a 75% chance of cracking, again bit crap that!!

Sadly it happened on my Bilsteins on my BMW. Gets interesting when you are hacking down country lanes and suddenly as you go halfway round a corner the nose of your car points in the air.

I think its a risk on all kits due to the design. Ultimately a bush is fitted in the standard car and works so its just copied without necessarily thinking about the higher cornering loads the car may be put through. Fred what do you think about Apex's comments? Complete b****cks or is the rubber twisted off the metal sleeve the bolt runs through if overtightened when the suspension is fully extended, then when sitting on four wheels the bush is under strain all the time leading to failure.

I mentioned them above but i'll post an email reply I had with an old issue..

“This looks like a case where they destroyed the bottom rubber suspension bushing by tightening the bolts with the wheels in the air. Stressing the rubbers when the car hits the ground. This never occurs in such a short timespan with the correct installation, thus finally tightening all bolts with the car resting on its wheels.

This info is also in our warranty/fitting document. But this is a common known fact/rule when fitting shockabsorbers.

I'd tend to agree with Mike & Kev, it's not like there aren't occasional issues with the beloved german stuff either to be fair.

got a car with a knocking set (H&R) in the workshop right now. removed and returned numerous sets, identified knocks that multiple experts couldn't find and blamed on top mounts. Even removed some that had already been reconditioned once and one of the fronts had play in it again.

Can see where you're coming from though, irrespective of make/brand it's frustrating when kit breaks down. Seems once they're out of the box, no dampers are entirely immune to general wear & tear. That said, for the sake of a few pennies for a couple of washers for an adequate fail safe-I'm not convinced this is quite the issue you're making it out to be. I somehow doubt we'll be seeing a panic influx of sets of ASTs suddenly appearing in the for sale section ;)

Just out of interest, how much would it cost to send of a pair of H&R for a rebuild to sort the issue above? I'm guessing maybe a smidge more than the cost of a couple of washers? lol :p

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
they're the only clio shocks i've seen that have done it!

well thats not true to start with. very early vmaxx had a recognised issue with it happening, which they recalled, fitted tighter bushes, and now supply washers with all kits

  Lionel Richie
bit s**t though ain't it! Does no one do R&D anymore?

"f**k it that'll do, we'll do a Shaggy if anyone dies"

forget the cheap tat

Spax (519 Automotive)
H&R
AST
Bilstein B14 and B16

I'm looking to replace the shocking coilovers fitted to mine with one of the above, dont quite have the budget for B16's sadly, Should I wait for the B14's or go with the spax as they are a very good price?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
We are currently running a group buy on the Spax so they are at a very good price at the moment!
