Loose Screw In Cup

  Embarrassed to say

Cup wouldnt start (nothing, no noises, all lights came on, no flashing lights didnt know what was up) in the morning so opened the bonnet, looked in the engine bay and noticed on top of the alternator there is a screw pointing upwards with a bolt to the side of it that was loose. Why would a screw/bolt be pointing upwards with nothing fitting on it. R-sport said they did a full nut and bolt test so it was weird.

Well I went home got the spare key and it started with that. Now need to buy some tools to swap the ecus other before i take it into a garage. Would be nice if anyone knew if this was a problem though.

I had the same problem, car wouldnt start at all with either key so had to get R sport chipped removed before it went back to dealers. Its a right pain in the arse!

that is the aux belt tensioner.had a few at work where the 13m bolt has come loose and the 10m nut is also missing from the stud that points upwards.retighten the 13m bolt before your belt starts going slack.

So that screw that is just pointing upwards into the air, nothing is supposed to be fixed on it. Would that have been the cause of it not starting. If this is the case I dont have to go through the bother of an ecu swap.

I was thinking perhaps something had fallen off due to the sh*t roads around here banging the car about.

sorry the stud should have a 10m nut on it.the stud attaches to a captive nut which the 13m bolt goes through the alternator and its bracket and then screws into it.tighten the 13m bolt and refit a 10m nut.this wouldnt affect starting unless the aux belt has gone slack and stopped the alternator charging the battery and so the battery would be flat.seeing as your fault only occured with one key i would say that the key transponder is faulty.
