Lowest coilovers?

For the 172 what are the coilovers that allow the lowest drop? can't really find any that go below 50mm on the back.

If you're only interested in the drop you may as well get airbags/hydraulics tbh.

Maybe I worded it wrong. I care about the handling and ride obviously too but one of reasons I would buy coilovers is to actually get a noticable improvement in ride height over standard lowering springs.

V max lower by 60mm don't they?

50mm is very noticeable tbh. If you're insisting on dragging your ringpiece along the ground the handling will suffer. Your call, if you're looking at V max I suspect I'm wasting my time trying to make any points anyway.

Apex drop by 40mm and I don't think another 10mm would really be that noticable - maybe the same as putting the spare wheel back in the boot?

I didn't think a drop of 60mm is 'dragging my ringpiece along the ground', it's hardly stupidly low? :S

Thanks to the two above helpful replies :)

50mm on an RS is a noticeable drop. I would consider more than that as in "dragging ringpiece" territory. But hey what do I know I've only had 2 RS's, 3 different sets of coilovers, a set of uprated springs and driven about a further 4 set ups on various CS members cars.....

If you want a 60mm drop you don't need the lowest coilovers. Pretty much all of them will do that.

If you actually care about handling/ride, you don't want to go too low. And you don't want AST's.

My FKs were lower than 60mm.

Listen to Turk, he actually knows what he is talking about. And as he's stated, if you want looks over function, that is a totally different thing to getting coilovers that will transform the handling.

Blooor's coilovers looked about the same height as standard suspension, but the handling is 1000x better.

why would that be then. Are u a suspension god or something???
Clearly u have no idea what ur talking about!
Your faith in a bunch of 'experts' that can't even align a Clio correctly amazes me. I appreciate that you've had a positive experience with them, but not everyone has, both in terms of quality and service.

LOL!! I thought the AST's were b****cks too!!

Coming from 172 dampers with apex springs they were an improvment, but the kw are far better for me. I would of had the front springs changed and the dampers revalved if I had any faith in them, but wasn't worth the risk.

Just out of interest, do you work in the automotive industry?

I love these threads there either I've spent shedloads on my coilovers love me or how low can I make my car go.

IMHO Renault didn't do too bad a job with the standard setups on any of the RS range so why spend a bloody fortune if your not racing?

;)

whats with slating a guy because he wants to go low with his clio, i see where hes coming from, 50mm aint much of a drop, and dont think any lower wont handle, touring cars sit on their arses yet im pretty sure they handle well ;).
Its getting like 106rallye register on here, certain CS aproved mods to your car or you get slated. Lets all have the exact sam cars shall we??

no he doesnt. He just hangs around with people that think they know what their talking about. So WARREN,How many race teams do your so called best buddies and setup guys run and support exactly??
Hmmmmm. How many do AST(curtis himself in the uk) run??
ALOT!!! The mans just come back from testing at the nurburgring with PORSCHE FFS! Hes spent nearly 2 weeks with them developing new kits for the 997 turbo and new GT3 RS. Some of Porsches test drivers and their tuning companys actually stated " the best kit they have tested on any of the 2009 porsches to date" this after testing kits from the likes of KW, H&R etc etc etc!!. Says alot that!!

I was just wondering, as he seems to post a lot of comments claiming he knows everything.

I run AST suspension on my race cars, best suspension i have used tbh.

Friend of mine deals with them. May be able to get some slightly cheaper kits if anyone is interested!

Love our ASTs now we have finally got them correct. Took some time with them not being the standard kit and having some top mount issues but now they are great.

All I can comment on re AST is my own experience. In total my car spent 6hrs at powerstation to try and resolve the car pulling to one side. I was then told (by Curtis) that my rear axle was bent. No doubt.
Since having the car checked over at a local tyre centre using this equipment
http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/
the rear axle was found to be absolutely fine. But having the fronts set toe in on one wheel, and toe out on the other wasn't what I expected of someone with AST's reputation.

Neither was the snapped rear spring collar's (both sides) a known issue which AST had done nothing about.

I don't think you need to be in the motor industry to comment on these issues, do you?

I don't see why Dan feels the need to stamp his feet and get upset whenever a negative comment is posted about AST. Regardless of what he thinks, surely the point of an owners forum is for people to share experiences (positive and negative)?

Basically you need to have a proper spring over damper rear coilover.

Our Bilstein Kit, RenaultSport Cup Racer Rear Dampers or apparently AST - which I haven't seen go as low as the cup/our setup - if they do then I haven't yet seen it.

if you want to go low then gaz go pretty low on the rear, take the rear adjusters out and you'll get another 5-10mm

The only problem with gaz is the ride quality is crap, even with the dampers on softest settings

I personally run v-maxx coilovers with custom 65mm rear springs based on the eibach sportlines with similar spring rating, the ride isnt too bad but the dampers are a little soft to say it handles amazingly, it just catches the arch as its pretty low

I did have KW fixed damper coilovers on my megane and they were awesome, would have them on my own car if they werent so expensive....

Taken from the 106/saxo world I know bilstein have an awesome reputation for making very good shock absorbers, i did have some bilstein/peugeot sport dampers on my s1 rallye and they were awesome with 25mm springs, but bilstein are for cars that handle more so than for looks

Calm down!! It's a fcukin clio for peat sake not a Porka! I appreciate you helped the development work of the kit, but its not night and day better than any other kit. Infact i found it hard and not suitable for road application.

Suspension like styling will be a personal thing, i can't see past KW now.

IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO THATS ALL YOU SAY!!!!!!!!!!

As for the setting thing. Im not sure. How much was it actually out and how long after the setup was the next measurement checked? Things change alot when a cars actually been driven and settled and changes massively when a car has been on track. Even i found that out due to massive amounts of stresses and strains on the car whilst at the ring. Lots of things move on the car within the suspension and chassis etc. My car was actually set pretty much parallel but after a ring trip it was toeing in one one side too.
