Major Laptop Error!! Help!

Evening, My partners laptop takes about 10 minutes to load up (Normally takes 1) when it does its painfully slow, in a way that it's far to slow to do anything. Managed to run disk check - No errors + Virus scan - No Viruses.

Any ideas?

What operating system is it running?

Im running vista on mine, and when i noticed it was slowing down, it turned out while i was fidling with the power settings, i changed the max cpu performace to 25%.

Have you done a spyware/adware scan as well?

defragment using perfectdisk or similar, and make sure pagefile is a reasonable size. Remove any unnecessary apps (particularly those that run on startup) and use Sysinternals Autoruns to check what runs at startup.
