I watched the throttle map video, then the quick "it's going video" WTF, totally threw me. A few vids back, it wasn't replaceable!

Then, thinking about it, it'll be a good watch, you reviewing something else. Was secretly hoping it might be a Saxo or a 106.

It’s the way of YouTube. Every car you buy is the best you’ve ever owned until you come to the next car.

To be fair, marks circumstances have changed so if you can have a more ‘special’ car than go for it!

i am 7 months into owning my 135, i am certainly not bored of it yet, but i can understand why people do get bored, it's perfect for what i want, sounds great, goes really well, has enough space, it's comfy and quiet when cruising, it does pretty much everything well, as a point to point car it up there with most things, but it does lack soul, specially if you like spirited driving.

Good luck Mark, i think the Porsche will be a lot more rewarding to drive.

Yeah it has been a bit of an abrupt about face, but the feel thing has been gnawing away at me for a good while now.

As for buying cars for YT content, no. Focus was meant to be long term, but two HG failures was enough. BMW, likewise, and if I could just feel something from it I'd probably have it for years. If I'd bought an M2 I doubt I'd be feeling this.

Sad to see the m140i go, I really enjoyed the videos and realistic views, but I get it, I feel the same about the car and probably wouldn't keep it if it wasn't the primary family car.

Totally understand your change of heart Mark. Porker probably won't be as fast in a straight line but boy will it be more fun.

It'll be a whole new experience with the engine and most of the weight behind you. So much harder to drive fast but so much more rewarding when you get it right.

I'm still in my stage 2 Fiesta and really rate it, but I'm eyeing up an M135i / M140i to replace it as a probable last chance to get into a RWD non-4pot, that still has enough doors and space for the family.

If that's what you want there are few alternatives and none in this class. You'll get a hugely rapid, capable, and practical car. It only breaks down a bit when you go out for a drive just to drive.

I'd take just about any previous car I've had over the 140 for a 30 minute thrash cross country. It's LOL mental when you floor it, and has a lively back end, but that novelty has worn off for me.

I used to watch marks videos naked. It felt more natural that way.

I hate what he has done here though. I feel violated and used. For a 2002 Boxster as well (not even the 3.2), makes you sick. These millennials and YouTube. Doing anything for likes.

I went from a mk7 ST to an M140 with a gap in between. Also went for the auto which does make it a very different car.

Better car, much faster. But ultimately less engaging. What I love about hot hatches is you can just decide on a moment to have a bit of fun. For the m140. I need to decide, put the car in sport+ and manual flappy paddle change mode then I’m set. Can’t really do that mid corner because you fell like it.

Good, that's kind of what I'm expecting. My old Golf R was auto as well and to be honest I was perfectly happy with it and the requirement to change modes before going for it.

Boring topic but what sort of warranty are you going to look at? I presume it’s a must when repairs are so expensive on these?

I've not even given it a thought.

The 2.7 seems fairly solid, I was just going to give it annual oil changes along with usual maintenance and see what happens.

Reports of oil starvation and power-steering pumps overheating on track don't concern me because a) I'll only ever run road rubber and b) I only run short sessions. I should be expecting big bills?

Am I mad for not considering a warranty?

I dont think so, a used replacement 2.7 engine is going to be less money than an N55B30 that's for sure. Rebuilds can be expensive, but in reality you wouldn't bother spending 10K to rebuild a 2.7 engine when you can just find another good engine and stick it in. The likelihood of failure is slim, I went to large expense changing the IMS bearing on my 996 and the standard bearing was in perfect condition upon removal, I wish I had just fitted an IMS Guardian and forgot about it..

I just replaced all the coolant hoses on the 996 and it was just over £700 in parts, so you can expect some higher than normal bills in the future. But if you shop around you can get good prices on replacement parts, most consumables are no more expensive than any other German car. Performance parts are very expensive for them unfortunately, but fortunately they are very good out the box so dont really need much modification for track work.

If it was me, I would get a decent warranty. For the £50/60 a month it’s total peace of mind isn’t it. When I had my Z4, I took one out and when I picked it up the starter motor was duff. Took it to a BM special who sorted it, and a few other things using the warranty I had (might have been AA). No fuss and saved me ££££s. I’d imagine a Porsche would be even more!

I took out an extended warranty when I got my 997.

I wasn't that bothered about having one when I was looking to buy, but when the dealer mentioned that their warranty could be extended I decided to go for it.

My brother in law has a Panamera. It needed a power steering hose.
Specialist = £600 (mental)
Porsche = £300 (slightly mental)
Pirtek = £30

I thought, before looking under the bonnet - it'd be all flashy and fancy pants items making it 'special'. Because it's a Porsche.
But the power steering pump, alternator and all that crap, looked like stuff you could get off euro car parts.
Obviously this is not an engine, gearbox or electronics.

No help at all, but can't wait to see you review the Boxster.

Sack the warranty idea off Mark, Stick that money away instead and ignore the Internet stories about failures and enjoy it.
