Megane 225 powered 172 cup.

How do you mean mofs for the fuel rail mate?

Yeah that sounds good, i was gonna use an external one but that sounds better!

Clutch and flywheel will be standard for the moment with a gripper, budget doesnt allow me to go crazy yet and i wont be seeing over 300lbft anyway. But eventually swapped for a paddle and smf

Cheers for the reply some usful bits of advice in there.

Shafts ive already bought some read made ones, but have got a good contact for making some 'spares' haha

Looking good mate.

For the chassis rail I just applied some heat and used a ball pein hammer to create the required space. TBH it didn't need very much manipulation.

Yep we cut away a but more than needed tbh, theres actually quite a lot of space!

Yeah you will need to mod the mounting points. Think you might have to tweak it a little but it's been a few years since I last saw one used.

Cheers for that - think Ive sourced one of ktecs prototype rails that they use with fuel reg in the rail and a return.

Reckon ill source 250 inlet mani also to be able to use a a clio throttle body, save me swapping over the wiring from 225 throttle body the clio loom.

What do you reckon fuel pump wise, clio pump housing then a better pump fitted in?!

250 inlet won't fit. The ports are huge compared to a 225 head. They do have a great fuel set up though.

A walbro 255lph pump will work fine in the OE sender unit but it will drain the sender unit really quick. When cornering the fuel in the tank sloshes around, to counter this they have a small fuel bowl at the Base of the sender. With a normal pump they don't flow enough to drain it, the uprated one does. You can just drill and tap a fitting in the top as a return.

I used a full PH1 fuel set up on one of my earlier conversions. Worked fine with 630cc injectors up to 374bhp

Yeah that was my thoughts to drill and tap the return, is it actually connected to the sender unit this bowl? Cant picture it.

Yeah need to source some injectors soon, but cheers ill go with tthat pump, maybe see if there is a swirl pot going cheap haha

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Yeah it's the very base of the unit. When you pull it apart you'll see what I mean.
Think I'll go for a swirl pot, the push on fittings ones are pretty cheap from obp, theres a cheap kit from china using jic fittings for £74 for hose aswell, but Im not sure how much trust the fittings and the hose will be s**t and smell!

So im struggling on proper things to do as the clio engine is taking up to much space in the garage to get the meg engine out aswell.

I turned my attention to the interior, my first issue was heat/demisting issue - in the 182 i had a heated windscreen which was awesoke and worked perfectly, but they are £300 and i cant afford that, so my other option was a race heater but why buy something you can make.

I decided to re use the old cup heater you make it very compact. Like so..

Jobs a gooden, this basically loops air from the blower right to the windscreen.

Obviously I dont want to run all the dials and stuff, so I went back to the loom and cut the end of the plug off.

Used the electrical probe to find out what wires did what, found the 2 I needed - fast, slow and earth.

Will wire that to switch when the I sort out what Im going to so with the dash... currently looking sorry for itself cut in half haha

@Mash. How have you wired this up mate. I am currently doing the same thing.

Fast
Slow
Off

How are you feeding power to it?? Theough the loom or individual supply?

@Tomo3292 I will go through an individual supply with my own loom as it seem to work perfectly on the BG.

Earth will just be earth probably where the standard earth is (above washer bottle)

The fast wire and slow wire connected to an on off on switch, then up can be fast, down can be slow then obviously a fused live to the spare terminal on the switch... really easy stuff to do mate :)

Excellent start to the project @Mash.

Always wish I used a meg gearbox on mine as ive gone through a few jc5 boxes haha.

For fuel pump, Id use a uprated pump in the sender unit to a swirl pot then boch 044 to the rail with a FPR.

That's the setup I use and its been great (Y)

Looking forward to updates.

Yeah i stumbled across yours ages ago! Thats the biggest thing with these conversions is the box!

Yep im going that way... [emoji23]

I also went a step further and bought an internal fuel tank... ffs

So a really productive day and a half.

Yesterday evening after work was spent with a mate cleaning the engine bay and engine and getting that ready to paint... christ what a nightmare it is cleaning and degreasing a block!

Some beforw shots...

So today was also spent picking up some parts:
- driveshafts meg to clio ones
- megane prototype fuel rail with return and regulator
- internal fuel tank (still have to buy swirl pot)
-inline filter/brackets/walbro 044 pump

Guessing I need to buy another smaller pump to feed swirl pot.

Small little 25 litre tank. This wasnt intended to go this far but it came at a bargain with the rest of the other bits, so I couldnt say no...

Pretty happy with the finished results of the engine, its not perfect what so much better than previous.

Next things on the list are to get my wallet out:
-gripper/log mani/downpipe/intercooler + pipework

Win win im excited!!@@@

For how much bay you'll see I probably wouldn't bother. Wont look much different unless you paint it a different colour....
Yeah good point, although now Ive removed some tar from the bay and theres patches, may just have to do a touch up!

Clutch update!

So first thing I thought it would be nice and easy using the dci100 clutch pedal and master cylinder. Speaking to people about the dci100 master cylinder with the ndo gearbox would of meant a really long pedal..

So i thought fine ill use the dci pedal and uprated master cylinder... nope

7826780485b1f54ce24e3de8b9d09fdc.jpg

That aint gonna fit, maybe using a screw type master cylinder like so, but theyre £140+

43697b005dda50eec81c3ceb0295e71d.png

So onwards. First things first, strip clutch mechanism back to metal and bush.

01201cd6dcbe0f395bd3b9cf7bb0933a.jpg

Weld on a bracket to act as a pivot arm.
(This was my first time welding, gas also ran out so im pretty happy with the results also very strong)

b5560fe1ed6c2fb5c9fc2e759c95b475.jpg

This will use that standard clutch movement to push the external master cylinder in.

Anyway this is the final ish product, few more brackets to make to support it (quite a flexible part of the bulkhead)

First things first, updates

Weather is been pretty s**t recently so spent a lot of time inside the garage cleaning up the bits I gad removed...

afe09e2cd714ad7406face4b6ee71743.jpg

New big red pistons and seal kit...

63ae55ca79a59f1a49ebe628424a189b.jpg

And voila, well needs a second coat but ran out of silver...

f1f4bbbe6f5bed83eb5741b56677e06b.jpg

Went for rc8 pads instead of rc6s, doubt theres much difference just will be getting a lot hotter stopping from a higher speed etc

Moving on, need to extend the loom from the heater, will just be an on off on switch for fast and slow, which means I dont have to spend big money on a heated windscreen or faff with a race heater having the water pipes inside.

3a94c51389228868f4b7fead95be0c95.jpg

Next up paint! Stupidly I got excited and got rhe subframe powerdercoated even though I havent finished welding on it yet... lol small touch up I think...

cd1360d170c09fc7070fab7cf65e73d7.jpg

So I think the clutch is finished (need an outflow line made up when gearbox is in) but yeah gonna wait till the lines are pressurized to check on the bulkhead flex then maybe add a few more brackets..

Clutch reservoir

a01fdbd799352c03102fa9c57c037f35.jpg

630cc injectors arrived so wasted no time in getting those fitted on the rail..

40347b37b5be0433b3f86e6ee5dd26c7.jpg

And in addition plumbed in the pressure reg what i also need is the renault 'plugs' that go over the holes in the inlet for things like brake servo and for my use to put the pressure regulator to...

6844dfcd5856ea694285818fa85616c0.jpg

New tie rods fitted just need to loop the rack then thats ready...

Gripper should be here next week, then the big updates can come...

Oh picked up a few things also

Very quick progress Matty boi! Like the quick and new idea for the hydraulic clutch and heater. Welding coming on nice too :)

Cheers bud, yeah heater is a slimmed down version of tonys as I saw his post ages ago about it, hopefully its still efficient to keep windscreen clear, fast setting is fast! Haha

And yeah bit dubious about this clutch mech, but i think because its just going into the unknown.

Bad picture but today ill add another bracket fron rhe bottom of the MC bracket to the pedal box where Ive welded a stud in, pretty sure I'll make a turnbuckle out of rose joint and that will allow me to tension the bracket!

Re using the standard meg oil feed its quite long but loops back fine...

0b08cd7f528149888923d9b88b0413d2.jpg

Im gonna run the turbo just with oil lines only and probably look to get a turbo timer to keep an eye on things, means less faff with coolant lines..

Added welded on another bracket tothe pedal box then bolted a bracket to that, which includes a stud at the end with a few nuts provide a bit of tention... now its conpeltely solid, hoping that transfers when it has the fluid in the lines.

a167cee3c71d9d4bf7f87b18c93ed6fd.jpg

Not sure what to do with the megane heat exchanger, to sack that off and use an aftermarket oil cooler... or use both especially as im only using oil feeds to the turbo, will have to have a think, or maybe run the heat exchanger and just monitor it on the road then make that judgement...

Also, only my opinion but the meg 225 turbo is watercooled from factory, so if your going with a gt28, id water cool it as its quite abit bigger. Coming on nicely tho bud

Yep very true, but I think the main reason of that is for the water to circulate after someone switches off the car, but as i will be sensible with cooling it down etc

And yep you're right it should be on the top feed and return bottom, but if I rotate it round so its that orientation, the outflow part of the turbo will be pointing in the wrong direction... maybe you can change that on the tubo havent properly looked..
