Megane 225 powered 172 cup.

Loads of shitty updates really no biggens with the lack of time after work to get on with proper stuff..

Just need to await aome new bearings then we can get the box in bits and fit the gripper!

Some aeroquip bulkhead fittings ready for the fuel lines aling with the longacre bulkhead through.

ab59d3ee154cd1ccd4c5b54fcb409117.jpg

Started getting all the fuel filter, pumps etx ready so they all drop down to an6 fittings, as it was a right jumble between different threads.

s**t picture, but the fuel rail with aeroquip fittings..

d355b53542528440667ffab8e95731d5.jpg

Fitted the CMC dash pod and started mocking up a dash panel like in the previous 182 that supports and acts as a guage panel etc

Also going to make some brackets from the bulkhead to support the dash, especially if the fire extinguisher is gonna be mounted from there...

50b4428d35c207fb9fdc9dac343288d2.jpg

Bought a new riv nut gun, my other ebay special broke yesterday, so went for a more expensive one, only time will tell

c11d5ae6478b9219f9174e0d1364667e.png

Finalized locition for shifter, gonna rivnut where the holes are and put threaded bar up to support and adjust tilt of shifter. Then will make up an alloy housing to hide all the plastic and what I can mount bias valve too.

Inteior is starting to feel like an interior again.

Made some support stands for the dash which some alloy sheet will be folded around...

dc1f412ed6ad0e011bde6de3ba2530da.jpg

Fitted electrical cut off and wired that into the earth cable - putting the live wires behind the dash like that scares me a little so earth is much much safer and means you dont have to run the alternator discharge resistor thing.

Realised I had a ctek battery charger lying around so made up sone terminals to go into the battery.

5f6900057d8e7a02dd695227f536a4ec.jpg

Started mocking up positions for the fuel pumps and lines etc

Set up will be:
25litre internal tank - lift pump - 1 litre swirl pot - 30 micron filter - bosche 044 - check valve (keeps pressure in the system) - sytec automotive filter 100 micron - 630ccs - pressure regulator - return to swirl pot.

Most of this is getting put in the wheel well, just need to make up some tank straps and make a alloy cover for it all to keep it msa compliant.

Picked up these tonight also! Love a new set of asts!

Little engine picture to finish.

0f591bcc814dd307df38ccd49fd6e6e9.jpg

Hopefully over the weekend the gripper will go in, and the engine fitted with a new cambelt and water pump.... meaning I can start bolting stuff back in! Wooo

Productive saturday!

Fuel set up is nearly complete, got the new riv nut gun working, so mounted all the brackets bar one in place.

All I have to do now is plumb in the fuel rail to bulkhead and run to and from the bulkhead to the swirlpot!

And make a fire wall for it..

Secondly.. bit bloody messy but that cannot be changed at the moment mounted a few more switches to dash panel

b9efeefcc7ae809a43b0aa7f85a3b773.jpg

Really happy with the position of everything! Just gotta rivet some alloy to the support bars and put a few more switches on.

Finished the loom for the heater just gotta throw a live and fuse to the switch.

ce5dd584ee6229d3bcf453a541a7d56b.jpg

Thirdly - shifter is nearly mounted, just gotta make a spreader plate that goes across the shifter gap to bolt the front 2 bolts too but its strong enough for the moment.

After removing all the pinions and ball bearings (well those and some really small roll pins falling out along with what i think is the reverse fork coming out) you give the input shaft a little tap to raise everything up a little, which meant enough room to squeeze the diff out

74287f3f5de5ffc83fda895acde91ea9.jpg

Gripper is awaiting bearings been pressed on so next weekend we should have the box back together, little nervous on putting it back together but its just remembering which pinion slides in to lock the rods in place before doing the other rods etc should be reet!

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

How hard was it to do? Never opened a gearbox before and picked a diff up today
Yeah pretty tricky, but that was going in blind!

I had a mate with me whos stripped his clio box and knows what hes doing so its not something id do if i couldnt learn from someone

Are you running the gripper at 10% locking to start to bed the plates in?
We did that with mine, only done 1 day session so far so after next session (or maybe before) will increase it to 50%.

I have no idea, if you run it at 10% would that mean further down the line splitting the box and changing it again?

Im not really aware i thought all the ramp angles etc were set in the factory and couldnt be changed...

Finally got round to sorting out the epas, the seller for the epas column didnt provide the plugs for live so just got some bigger terminals and insulated them and thats seems to work perfectly!

Also mounted the variabke resistor on the dash, loving the position of everything currently well within reach.

Recycling at its finest using old plugs from redundant looms to make it easily removable from the main loom, if dash/loom needs to come out quickly etc

Should of prethought about that one and covered it in heatshrink first, but bit of leccy tape will sort it hha

Aswell with fitting some aerocatches to a mates 197 that was how sunday was spent...

The curse of @Matt555 struck me also went to get up from soldering and palmed my hand directly on the soldering iron outting full weight on it, and also got a bit grinder happy and went straight into my finger... just a deap scuff haha

This week I will do the cambelt and water pump on the engine and get it all timed up, clean out the bottom of the engine oil pump etc give it a check over.

And finish off fitting the gripper!

Don't forget to put your exhaust in through the subframe / transmission tunnel gap. I did the first time around and had to drop the subframe to get the link pipe in as engine was in and definitely not coming out when I realised I couldn't squeeze it through the gap :disrelieved:

Do you still have to use the Renault tool to fit the crank seal on the meg lump like the Clio engines

Today was uneventful but eventful.

Went to finish of the gearbox and ended up taking more bits off.

Where the selector rods enter the gearbox and use the retaining pins to act as the "clunk" and to make sure you dont select 2 gears at the same time. Basically wouldnt go far enough in like something was blocking it

e7e0da1b20bd94cbf6af524331ddd078.png

The holw gearbox assembly is full of moving pins around to locate the rods but it turns out number 20 had found itself under one of the selector rods number 11. Meaning nothing would sit properly.

046637efd19fc69cef58f0e7c2fa755d.jpg

In the end this mean completey taking apart the selctor rods punching out the retaining pins to seperate forks from rods.

That meant progress stopped as more pins and circlips were needed.

Hey ho another day

The rest of the day was spent getting the cambelt sorted. This was the first time ive done one on my own and i can safely say its a eaiser job on a f4rt than an f4r.

Love you breezy attitude , nothing seems to phase you . The end is near [emoji1303].

Cracking job @Mash.
Haha yeah it used to dont get me wrong but with knowledge comes confidence and all that s**t... so no idea where the confidence is coming from looool ;)

But yeah just have to understand that most things can be put right if you make a mess first time round, everythings designed for a purpose and by a person so once you understand that you'll understand how most things are put together

"Matthew Ashmore - 2016" haha

But yeah happy days isnt it, im worried about little things like swarf in fuel lines etc so just gonna run a fuel sampling kit to flush the fuel through once etc but yeah im excited mate, will have to take you out in it once done!

Anyone know of any good aftermarket inner cv boots? And outer for that matter...

But cannot find any aftermarket inners.

Renault do them at £40 but x 4 becomes a bit pricey.

Few updates, loom is grtting there, throttle body loom has been modified, just map sensor and cranks sensor to go.

The engine turns over and i have ignition and lights, not much else though due to no speedo or fuel guage - the dash is pretty useless now haha

There we go, throttle body isnt responding when ignition is on so i dont know whether it needs some sort of calibration with the ecu... or i have wired it in wrong or something, but we'll get to that stage later on...

Still gotta finish off boost pipes and as above map sensor and crank sensor, sort a bracket for coilpack, and when the fuel line arrives plumb the engine bay return line in.

Then look at getting base map on it so it can be started...

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Oh also the trip computer or anything isnt lighting up? Not sure if thats related to the throttle body?
