Cardboard? WTF? Everyone knows they didnt use cardboard for Mk1's. It was too heavy and expensive to use.....;)

Well, Valvers/Williams' when their slightly modified look better than 172/182s, but 1.2/1.4 'sport' mk1's look worse than the equiverlant mk2's.

Only thing is... the valvers and williams are proabably too hardcore and basic for people these days, and the 172s and 182s are a much nicer place to be wen ure stuck in traffic. But on a country lane or when showing off to a mate, i'd like to have your hybrid tom!!!!

Btw my next car is prob going to be a 172! lol

They still look quite good imo, looking a bit boxy now, but there will come a day not too far away when suddenly they are way out of date. A bit like how we see the R5 now.

I agree with Tom, Mk1's (valvers & willys) look spot on any way, i will deffo have another valver one day - only this time it won't be standard, it will be along way from that !!

  Mk2 Golf GTI
I prefer mk2's tbh.

And their are many better looking cars from that period and earlier IMO, whereas the mk2 clio is one of the better looking hatchbacks at current.

They just seem really dated now, whereas the likes of the mk1 and mk2 Golf still look awesome!

Mk1s rule! i would love a either a 16v, hybrid or a willy, but finding one that needs no work doing to it and in good condition is really hard. also most seem to be on 100,000+ miles now, which puts me off. So im getting a 172 cup in january, and hopefully by this time next year, i will have paid my loan off, and i will look into a hybrid as a trackday car!

mk1's are better from the outside (when a valver up spec wise) but from comfort and interior i'd always go for a mk2 as the mk1 dash is plain nasty IMO of cause lol.

Apparently Mk1's are always the best, but it only ever seems to be Mk1 owners droning on about it ;) As long as you all think they look/are better, then it's all good heh? ;)

Gay bubble jelly backed mk2s!!! :D:D:D

Mk1's are for old skool hardcores - mk2 are for the "I need to be comfy and have lots of toys to play with" ppl.

Jst messing, it's all personal preference...

(P.S - They are really girly tho eh!)

I like both the Mk1 and 2 there different cars the Mk1 is classic in its looks. The Mk2 is a much more modern looking car. Saying one is better than the other is unfair its like compairing the Escort Cosworth with the RS Focus. There both superb but in there own way and people always with liek both.

How many Mk1 (16v/Willy/whatever) owners with £13k+ burning a hole in their pocket, wouldnt upgrade to a 172/182/Cup/Trophy?

Munson, i could have put 5.5k down as a deposit and financed the rest but decided to buy a cheaper car and put money in the bank. ;)

Me - having 13k in my pocket I wouldn't call another clio an upgrade TBH ;) :D

I would put 8k of that 13 back in the bank and go get Cams and throttle bodies!:D

I said 'burning a hole in your pocket' As in money isnt the issue - say you were offered a 182 for free but only if you didnt sell it. You'd stick with your rusty old Mk1? Oooookayyyyyyyyyyyyy

Mk 1's interiors look so bad now, but valvers, williams do look good from the outside. However, I think I'd still have a 172/182 as I like their newer look more. Also, mk2 standard versions e.g. RT look better than mk1s IMO of course

(However I wouldn't say no if offered a mint Williams)

I've owned both valvers and a 172 at the same time

I decided to keep the valver and get rid of the 172, not because i was skint i just wanted to invest my £ elsewhere so i kept my favourite

The fun factor & driving position in the valver is far superior to the 172

A well cared for valver/willy is a reliable animal and yes i prefer the mk1 old skool shape

I def wouldn't buy a 182. If offered for free then of course I'd take it - it's a free car!

If I could'nt sell it I would'nt want it no...I would'nt want a slower car, the 'luxuries' of a 182 are lost on me...
