So with work being quite boring I spent 95% of my 12 hour shift yesterday machine polishing and cleaning bits on the car

Started the morning by removing the rear bumper as I planned to do something later on in the day...

If you're allergic to pics then this post is 100% not for you! 😂

Wasnt that dirty behind there. I masked the light holes up but one swift sneeze saw the tape fall into the boot 😂

Washed/Foamed with some Fairy and 1 bucket

Sprayed liberally with Korrosol

49793070366_be0621f0d2_k.jpg

Then some tar and glue remover, I let it sit for 5 mins, wiped everything down with a rag and then washed the car again

Nice and clean behind the bumper

Bumper all clean, take note of the big scratch...

Next step was to clay the whole car to prep it ready for some machine polishing of the pikey variety

I removed the w**k RenaultSport sticker on the front edge of the bumper

Be gone

49793073346_a70c274841_k.jpg

Bit more glue remover and the residue was gone. The quality of that sticker was exceptional tbh. Just a shame it was a w**k looking sticker

49793379277_efeaea5d0a_k.jpg

I masked up the rubbery trims and plastics to stop catching them as I'm a heavy handed t**t and not built for precise or careful work

The rain then arrived ffs!!

Managed to get the majority of the car into one of the loading bays at work, if only the bottles of IG55 weren't there!

My little stool came in handy here. Saved my knees from being more destroyed than they already are

Did the rub strips off the car

49793387552_911e92759a_k.jpg

Pushed it outside for a liberal coating of wax. I've not been to the gym so I fancied a good f**king arm pumping. By God did I get what I wanted. I'm feeling it today in the shoulders! :ROFLMAO:

49793076051_07cd1b774a_k.jpg

Buffed the wax off and the paint felt like glass, easily 80% better than what it was before. It's not perfect (you can see that in the rub strip pic) but I'm using cheap s**t gear so I don't expect to get the best results. It was more about learning something new for me, a practice run for something else???...

I put my painted washer blanks in too. Better than them shitty plastic cap things I had in before. The only issue is that I had 2 passenger side ones... Which meant getting a bit funky to remove that little shitty locating tab "Bring out the pikey" *people scream*

But I made it work and they don't look completely dog dicked

Snapped a few pics of it done

Whilst doing this I wanted to paint the rub strip for the rear bumper in satin black as I'm sick of topping it up with AG Trim gel and I'm too cheap to buy more C4

Started off with plaggy primer, then filler primer, then a few coats of satin black and then matte clear

49792527303_40483db0c7_k.jpg

Back on the car, looks loads better!

49792538723_49927845f8_o.jpg

You'll also notice in that pic the massive scratch is slightly smaller too which is a win!!

I used a cheap Hyet DA with some eBay pads I've had since I bought my first dCi 5-ish years ago with some Meguairs Ultimate compound, AG Super resin polish and then Meguairs Ultimate paste wax. If that ain't cheap and cheerful then I don't know what is!! 😂

Vid of the before and after, this is before any wax. For reference that's a Samsung S9+, my hands have been evolved into shovels for working down the pit, not machine polishing cars! f**k the iron lady

Next things to do as part of the exterior clean up is to try and get my other mirrors from my mam and dads house, re-paint the caps and paint the plastic part satin black. Paint the scuttle trims satin black, along with the fog surrounds and then maybe source a rear wiper blank as I can count on one hand how many times I've used that thing since the car has been on the road! My alloys are scabby as s**t too, might demote these to track wets and use my turbines for road as I have a full set of NS2R's for these now too thanks to @hazzamondo!

Cheers for reading :)

Looking lovely, wish I could do bits on my car whilst at work :ROFLMAO:

I think i spend most of my time at work doing my own s**t and my evenings at home helping other people out to try and make them better at their job ffs 😂

Looks great. Always thought rotas would look good on a clio. Monaco is the best colour they did for the 172.

Yeah they look ace on Clio's and EK Civic's imo

That's what you call a productive day at "work" lol
My back definitely felt the hard day at work 😂

Looks brilliant mate. Rear bumper easy to remove? Is it just a few bolts or are there any hidden in the arch?

Always loved monaco!

Ta bud

Easy peasy

4xT20 Torx for the liners, 2xT30 on the top edge of the bumper and then theres 6x10mm, 2 underneath the car which will be rusted to f**k and then 4 bolts behind the liners. I only took the front 2 out and then yanked it (I've done a lot of bumpers and never removed the rear 2😂)

Just read this from start to finish great build given me some much needed inspiration for my own build 👍
Do you remember what size the blue bung you put on the carbon canister breather on the cylinder head was or have one of the ten left i can buy off you?
Virtually all my tools are locked away at work so nothing to measure it with 😂😔

I need to play around a bit more, currently got it in auto mode. My phone will do pro mode so I've already had a play around with ISO and warmth levels before but it's still a bit alien😂

Bit more playing about with the camera. Managed to stop making so much noise in each pic

I'm generally dumping these here so I can look back in a few months and see if I've actually made progression behind the camera. Or whether I'm still a shaved chimp with shovels for hands...

Need to get the car somewhere decent rather than various points of the yard/carpark at work

Get it somehwere industrial, at night. If you get a pic you like in auto, have a look at the data on it and change it from there. Don't be afraid to take 20 shots of the same pic but adjusting levels as you go, then settle on the one you like.

I really like long exposure shots with a load of bokeh in the background. So wind down that F stop to pretty much as far as you can and then work on length of shutter speed. Get a tripod too.

Aye I started taking about 10 pics pretty much in the same spot yesterday. Is there anyone on YouTube that you like to watch that does camera vids?

It would be 10x easier if everyone I work with was allowed in the office. 1 lad is a professional photographer for Comicon events, so is his mrs, another bloke does ridiculous astro photos and the other takes insane action pics of jet flyovers.

DigitalRev TV is good for bits of advice. If you can learn Photoshop then you're onto a winner
