I can see a few guys rubbing there hands together after they read this lol

Speak to matt at TDF Ian. They build great engines. Love mine! Albeit not as powerful as you need. If you need it to be NA it's not cheap for that power.

drhowsers is coming back to me for MORE, 245 beans should be achievable :D (232 at the moment with a s**t head)

scoff renault 5 gt turbo is bloody fast, but ugly as s**t! I think I will stay with my much lower spec but moderatly good looking 182!

NA or 'A naturally aspirated engine' is one common type of reciprocating piston internal combustion engine that depends solely on atmospheric pressure to counter the partial vacuum in the induction tract to draw in combustion air. This is in contrast to a forced induction engine, in which a mechanically driven supercharger, or an exhaust-driven turbocharger is employed to facilitate in increasing the mass of intake air beyond what could be produced by atmospheric pressure alone.

ie cheating

Depends on the formula you are racing in if its classed as cheating or not.

For a road car, forced induction certainly makes a lot of sense just in terms of being a reliable way to get 130-140bhp per litre for example from something like an F4R, mega lightweight 2 ring slipper pistons etc arent exactly good for big miles so it pretty much rules out a 280bhp N/A 2.0 road car.

Honda make it look relatively easy to do N/A by comparison to the F4R, but obviously much better designed core engine to start with.

Even Toyota were doing well with their 1.8.

plenty of revs, decent power once you've wound them up enough.

good enough for lotus anyway

  Evo 5 RS
mechanical steroids

You wouldn't put a fan up your arse in a 100mtr sprint ;). Nah it's all good, change is nice now and again

even if means you're cheating :p

Boost from the crank, that's where it's at

Generally speaking doing so is just less efficient and less controllable than a decent turbo setup.
There is a reason that turbo charging is so much more popular and its not just cause manufacturers arent cool enough to fit superchargers like the internet might have you believe, lol

  Listerine & Poledo
naah, the manufacturers are gheying out and being all too busy caring about the planet n junk ;)

I know, I know that turbos can be easier to control, give bigger boost etc.... but. well,

charger whine > dump valve

And when you're talking about a 2.0 4-pot without 9k on the dial, you need as much help as possible to make it sound decent

Toyota tried being supercharger cool once and got so excited about it they forgot to put oil in them apparently lol.

ha! yeah, that was a masterstoke of idiocy.

Thing is, it didn't feel any faster. it did bulk out the lower-range nicely, but by the time you're up in the big-revs of that engine, there's nothing more the blower could give.

plonk it into an MR2 (mk1 or 3) and it'd be brilliant... providing it's oiled

  Evo 5 RS
the C Compressor was a pinch of a hair quicker (and I mean ever so small) than my ph1 when it was standard. Such a random car

Out of the two I think turbo is by far the more fruity - it's just not for me

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
i just highly despise boost

I dont really see whats not to like TBH, last big spec engine I built was boosted and I still had arrow rods and solid lifters and larger valvers and all the proper engineering stuff that I would do with any big spec N/A engine I was building so it was still fun to build and it still revved to 8500rpm, but by having boost as well it just added another dimension to it and gave me access to a lot more power that the only way I could have got N/A would have been a much heavier engine.

I think now that turbo's are becoming more popular both in motorsport and in general, that N/A tuning alone is going to start to feel quite outdated relatively soon, so you're going to have to learn to move with the times Fred, lol

In my revs/cylinders thread theres a mustang with a blower so awesome it sounds like it's tearing school children in half when the right foot is buried.

I guess that I'm just going to have to hunt out classic yank / merc V8's for my boost fix

I've got 2 turbo cars, there's just something about NA engines that IMO is more of a challenge in terms of building (bit of black magic ;)) and driving - its pure

Going back to your F430 e-diff thing, i despise flappy paddle gearboxes too, manual box everytime - its part of the experience even though its slower

Don't care what anyone thinks F430 (gated box) is the best car I've ever driven - like you say pure and proper fun. Makes me grin even now thinking about it! No super-natural forced intake required

Also I do like a bit of trumpet V-Tec
