Mot Result: Not Overjoyed

  1998 BMW e46 323i
Took my mk2 172 for an MOT at a Renault Indie today, came back needing:

OSR wheel bearing (I've been saying that for 10k and Renault said it was fine)... So I'm happy, cos it's noisy as hell.

NS lower ball joint; again I've noticed some not so inspiring metallic clunks for a while now.

and OS cv boot... (about 3 months since the NS was done)

42k, full renault service history and just a month shy of 4yrs old and it's gonna cost £290 (including labour and MOT and re-test fee).... Not that great when I've had old bangers sail through MOTs just needing a bulb or a tyre!!!!

Oh how the french build 'em right!

Anyone else had some pricey fixes?

£150 for new ball joints and stearing rack arms.
£150 for new brakes
That was when it went in for service last time.

I think I had warently work for somehting like £400 once though for sunroof alarm and something else some time back.

Best pricy fix I've seen if for a new V6 engine. £5k I think in parts alone.

dont get it done at renault, take it too a diff garge and have the work done there then get it re tested, u will have the price, or do it yourself, its only basic jobs, you could prob buy a new hub and drive shaft from mat at renault breakers , swap it in mins, that would cost u maybe 80 at most

New front spring as the end had snapped off one was all I had to have done.

Pain in the arse to get a new spring in time though, only 4 Renault garages in the country had them in at the time. Luckily we were at the other halfs folks in London so had a drive over to the huge Renault garage nearish Wembley (well I drove past it to get there :p ) and picked on up, 100 quid for 1 spring :(

it's all work that needs doing, and it's an independent specialist i went to... just a pain finding £240 + MOT £36 + £15 re-test fee; the new MOT procedure is crazy...

The price of each job is fair + labour, just feel a bit cheesed off that a 4yr old car that's been well looked after, at considerable expense, needs this doing
