MPG effected

  ITB BG 182
Didnt know what to put in the title.

Ive recently emptied my old coolant pot and put some new coolant antifreeze in.
But i have noticed it takes 3x as long to warm up but my MPG is just shocking now, its about 26-28mpg.

Is there anything i can do to improve the mpg?

MPG this time of the year with these weather conditions will be affected.

my usual 30-31 odd is down to 27ish. apart from driving even more economically than you already do, just wait for the temp to warm before worrying too much about it.

no. 11 miles to work.

altho only 3-4 miles of it isnt in traffic. stop start the whole way today. took 1hour20. pathetic really.

drive home once a week down the motorway to give it a boot, and also driving in the evenings is obviously quieter.

i usually manage 32ish most tanks in normal conditions. (ive got toys tho, none of this cup shi.t) ;)

11 miles is a short one for me lol, i'm about 80ish miles a day on the motorway hence the better mpg.

Does drop down a bit if i'm off work for a few weeks and am just pottering about town.

Mines been down at the minute but i was doing no long runs to university and just 6 miles to work (31 mpg :dapprove:), but even still my first run back down the other day and i only got 34mpg rather than the usual 38+ ( was using standard petrol though rather than super)

Mine's exactly the same, well below what it got during the warmer months. Currently averaging 29.8MPG, where as I was getting 34MPG before. Mainly a mixture of short blasts and town driving and some motorway driving.

Mine used to be 32ish, fitted a decat and its gone way down. I'm guessing its now about 25 at the most!

Cant see why the coolant would affect mpg though.

i didnt make the mistake of fully draining it.

I don't see how that's a mistake if it's bled properly on refill.

The bad economy will mostly be caused by coold start enrichment. If your doing lots of short trips it will hit your average MPG hard.

No but you have made the mistake of a drop in the ocean if you were trying to do a coolant change. Completely pointless to just replace the coolant in the header tank. Wants the whole lot draining and the rad and block flushing through then refilling with fresh coolant and bleeding.

Mines been hovering about 27mpg since I changed my radiator and coolant. Used to get 32ish. Poor times. Must have an airlock but the heaters heat up quickly and the temperature needle stays stable :S
