MX5 Number 4

Map still needs a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun already! The noise is so addictive, it's properly difficult to take your foot off the accelerator haha.
Not sure if it's a bit too lean up top - 13.1/13.2 is maybe pushing it a little.. And somehow it's at 12.4ish at cruise - way too rich. Just needs some time spending on it I guess.

Sounds a lot better when your driving the thing! Adds so much to the driving experience though - it was never going to make a whole lot of difference to the performance, but it adds a lot when you're giving it death! Especially when I don't think I've ever been in anything with ITB's before...

Yes, it's got blue, square headlights - these are Raybrig units that fit S13/MR2/RX7, light output is mental and they were very cheap. I have tried the OEM splitter and it just didn't look right with the rest of it.

Fitted clear round Raybrig lights

Say, have either of those Raybrig lights got a decent beam pattern? As in a pattern that is sharp?

I think I have what is the standard headlights and the beam pattern is appalling - it's a blotchy mess rather than a defined beam of light, so I feel like I'm blinding other people all the time. No-one's flashed me yet but then it's probably because they are so weak!

Back in and braced up. Managed to fix an exhaust leak too while I was at it.

Is that one of the suspension bracing bars? Have you gone for the whole lot? Has it made a difference?

More toys I can't afford but could be tempted by... lol

Cheers!

I think the Raybrigs are as good as you're going to get. Don't get square ones as they just don't fit. Not without work anyway. Raybrigs are a massive improvement over crappy standard units; team them with some decent bulbs and you're onto a winner.

That PPF brace is a no-go IMO. I ran it for a couple of months and my diff didn't like it at all. Feels like a much nicer car to drive without it. If you want something to strengthen up the chassis a bit, buy a TRLane roll bar and some P5 frame rails. Biggest improvements you can make... Just be prepared to chop and drill your car! Haha

Cool, thanks for the info

I'll check out the Raybrigs - I might leave the drilling the important bits for later, when I'm feeling braver... lol

Find a rotted out Mk2.5 and take all the bracing from underneath that, it'll all go straight on and cost you buttons. Instant chassis-strength. Joey's right too, the P5 bracing wont hurt either.

(pretty much anything you can pull off of a Mk2.5 will be better than what came on a Mk.1.....that's just development.
But aside from body and some interior (you wouldn't want the body anyway, unless rust is your friend) everything is interchangeable.
OH! And S-VT engines. They wont go into a non-S-VT car without some serious wiring and fuel line work.

Well, it's about time I posted the obligatory throttle body pics. Gave it a quick wash and threw some wax and tyre shine on and headed to my new favourite picture destination. Also took a couple of crappy iphone videos with the hardtop on - crazy the amount of noise that enters the cabin with the roof on and windows up! Best £400 I think I've ever spent!

Need a big Alloy radiator and I need to paint the cam cover I think... Crackle paint, but black or red? Hmmmm

More that it's not luminous green and 7 inches tall.

Sir must be maturing, soon he'll graduate to fixed headlights ;)

Not quite sure I believe it myself, but I've just got back from the MOT. Passed first time, fully legit - full cat test too!
Think the tester was as shocked as I was as it sounded like launch control on fast idle. No written advisories, just mentioned the number plate was a bit small, front wheels poke out a bit much and the exhaust is a tad loud. Couldn't be more pleased!

Love it... One of my favourite cars on the forum. That's the Cat & Fiddle run that you're on isn't it?

Thanks! Yeah, it's only a quick motorway drive to macclesfield so that's the road I've set it up for basically! Spent many an evening going up and down with the laptop on my passenger seat. IMO it's a better run than the Evo triangle, far more technical but nowhere near as long unfortunately.

Don't those average speed cameras spoil your fun, or don't they work in the dark?

You'll have to pm me next time you head over there so I can see it in the flesh :)

Will do! Need to get a few of us there - @sofaboy has just ordered a MK4 so we'll be up there at some point. Also need to see Titch's green MX5 - not seen that one yet!

Aha, the ones at the bottom have been chopped so don't work - should see the speeds motorcyclists go up and down, makes me feel bloody ill!

I'm good mates with Titch and have driven the Cat & Fiddle with him before, so I'm sure he'll be up for meeting up again :)

How much when you sell?

Much rust?
Tricky one as it's not worth anything really - added to the fact that you like to pay absolute peanuts for cars... I'd end up with a tenner and a box of teabags at best!
You'd hate it anyway, it's a pain in the arse sometimes - seems to need constant map adjustments and it's never fully happy unless you're on full throttle. Rust wise, it's not got loads - there's some around the sill but it will be getting sorted after winter as I'm sick of seeing it!

I've not had this car in my possession for about 6 weeks, it was quite something getting back behind the wheel! Yet, somehow, I'm falling out with it. Silly things are annoying me, and it's crap at any sort of semi-long distance driving. Doing Oulton Park at the end of this month, and I've a list of things that need sorting ASAP, including:
- New Manifold/downpipe as the flange has warped and it sounds like an old van.
- A big radiator as it runs rather hot.
- Some accurate temperature gauges.
- New throttle cable.
- MAPPING. Rolling onto light throttle causes the most ridiculous bangs - something's really not right, and acceleration enrichment up at 5/6k RPM is miles off - it's a little bit of a pig to drive at the moment. Should be very easy to sort, mind.

I've spent most of this weekend with Seb and his MK4 MX5, that's really not helped matters! Lovely thing. Also, sold the rota's - still deciding what to replace them with... I think 949 Racing 6UL's are winning at the moment. Anyway, enjoy some recent pictures!
(Oh, and that Mazda sticker isn't staying - it's not a Mazda afterall...)

Great pics as always mate. Is the Mk4 and 1.5 or 2.0? How did it perform?

ND is a 2.0 Sport Nav. Remapped by BBR less than 100 miles from picking it up, made 175bhp Lol! It's lovely, quick enough - but not going to set the world on fire, it is an MX5 after all isn't it!
Only thing we hated was how much body roll it has. It's kinda ridiculous how much rolling around it does, even at ordinary speeds.
Either way, it's far quicker than my car in a straight line!

He picked it up on Friday morning from Essex, drove it straight to BBR and then home. Nutter.

It's weird, I still come on loads but I just read! I've got a lot of cool stuff going on that isn't car related at the moment, and most of the stuff I actually want to contribute to is in OtherMarques which I can't post in because pauper-member 😂 I'd post more in here, but I've not touched the thing in the last 6 weeks!
