my 197 decison. help please!

I was offered a basic 197 for £14600 back in early June for deleivery in Sept.

In the end i decided to not go for it.

However got a phone call this morning form the bloke i bought the 182 and he wanted to talk again abvout doing a deal.

I don't need discussion about selling the 182 for a 197. I love the 197 as it is, obviously i have the concenr it may get cupped or spec improved next year etc.. but thats beside the by... i want one!

Here is the crux of it...

How much should i be getting a new 197 for? I want racing blue (like the 182) and i guess a better cd player would be nice. Not bothered bout anything else on it really...

How much is it available on line? I tohught i saw it for £13.999 onlnie but i can't find that anymore...

I need some ammo to use to get a good deal chaps so please link me up.

I also have a 182 with chassis pack in racing blue 2004 54 plate with 30k on the clock to trade in. Good nick bar a few stone chips on fornt a a tiny parking dent. How much should i be getting for that?

Oh, plus, how does the offer Renault gave of the 1k off work? is that just a subsidy form Renault UK to use loyal Sport owners?

I think the 197 is awesome too, far more comfortable then my 172.

I phoned both autoebid today and broadspeed and they talk good deals online but won't actually meet the deals once you speak to them.

I'm holding off to around March then I'm going to buy it when a bigger discount is available.

great looking car though imo, the build quality also seems a lot better then my 172 whihc is falling apart or at least I thin it is ;o))

I too like the 197,but at present its too heavy and too expensive for what you get.Have you seen the options list?I think renault have taken a leaf out of BMWs book(the mini).I would wait,its not selling very well thats why the 1k off.Soon renault will be throwing the options on,and hopefully a cup version as well.Rumours have it that renault will bring a more powerful version out.At present they dont want the clio interfering with the sales of the megane renaultsport as the new clio is similar in size.Whatever you decide good luck and post a pic if you buy one.

Renault sent out a voucher for 1k off to existing owenrs of renault sports. not everyone got them for some reason.

Reading renault sport forum JT or soemone else at the top table said it was in reply ot current owners saying the197 was too expensive. runs out end of december iirc.

The £1000 customer saving is for current renaulsport owners. Name must be on the logbook. And you don't need to part exchange it either.
Broadspeed etc all talk s**t, they go on about how they can do them for this price and that price, but they're all talk.
I've sold about three from my dealership, and eveytime my customers have been told they can get a better deal from the internet, but when they call them, they just get fed on bullshit.

Soon renault will be throwing the options on,and hopefully a cup version as well.Rumours have it that renault will bring a more powerful version out.At present they dont want the clio interfering with the sales of the megane renaultsport as the new clio is similar in size.

Cup spec has been on the card for ages its normal production to give the stock car a go then temp some more buyers later etc.

A more powerful verson is easy but that 1.5~2 years off IMO. Don't expect huge gains.

£14k for a basic car and cheap options is the way to look optiosn cost delaers very little but they make easy cahs on them looks like dealers need soem trade sales arn't going good so you've a good situation.

Check on the trader for prices but your looking at a lot to put forward I'd recon £7.5~8k for your car as there a bit despirate say you spec a 197 to 14.5k that about £7k to find/finance.

yeah the money ain't a problem realy, i am mostly concerned with getting the best deal possible. If i don't like it i'll walk away, like last time i guess.

I'm quite interested to see how much a stripped 197 would weigh... I am in the prospects for a company car early next year, which would allow for a less.... sensible car for the driveway.

I have spoken to a friend about it and he wants me to get one simply for the fact he can rash it around Goodwood one day.

197... No interior, ripped out unnessecaries including windscreen wash, wipers, replace glass with perspex etc..

All thoughts at the moment, but it will be pretty cool if the price is right next year.

I guess.. But as I said, a fair while off yet, that's if I do choose a 197.

It's what, 2 seconds slower than a 172cup to 100mph ??

So take out EVERYTHING from the inside, put in lightweight seats, 5 point harness (eliminates the need for airbags which are obviously heavier), perhaps a cage, then dashboard out, speakers out, headunit out, air con out, pretty much everything... Even the windscreen wash (that's what... 5kg when full??)... Then perhaps a straight through exhaust (removes the weight of the muffler and cat), modified intake somewhere... Those are all FAIRLY low cost solutions to start with, things like headers and cams might be a bit an option though... I think that would rinse any 172 in any situation
