my clio rsi 1.6 16v

i bought the car standered cheap with no mot tax and a gearbox fault.
did the mot only needed 2 bulbs and all 4 springs where broken advised on tyres and the centre and rear exhaust.

first off was a set of pi 60mm springs to get it through the mot at work could get a good price on a janspeed exhaust so bought a cat back system and had a set of 17" alloys on my previous car the wheels fitted great.
drove the car around for about 8months before the gearbox compleatly failed 3rd gear went.

the clio was then taken of the road and put into storage untill i could find a gearbox whilst the clio was off the road i was disqulified for driveng twice 2 year ban then back on the road for 3months then a 1 year ban it ends on 20th dec so not long to wait.

2 months ago i managed to get hold of a completed engine and gearbox at a very good price. so have removed my engine and gearbox as i want to rebuild the engine replace the clutch and fit the replacement box have striped it down replaces the bearings and seals. the box that came with the car has been replaced at some point with the wrong one.

plans are to rebuild the engine with uprated cams head work also fit a lighted flywheel better exhaust manifold and decat then follow up with a remap all before the 20th dec hopefully :)

got a set of catcam 704s on there way to me :)
also may have sorted a manifold and lightened flywheel.

if i buy an rs tuner do they do a map for the k4m? can i live map my ecu with the rs tuner? if i get a map made can i alter it my self via the rs tuner?

remember reading on here theres a bigger throttle body that will fit my car what engine was it from?

it was off a variation of 2.0 16v F4R but none of the RS ones. sure it was a laguna/megane one, do a search the correct engine code to get one off will be on here somewhere i remember reading it

4-1 manifold and decat has arrived. once all fitted and running will get it mapped with the cat fitted see how it does then try it with the decat on the rollers see if there's much difference.

took my standered flywheel off and weighed it 6.5kg the lightened one i have bought to go on is 5kg not as much of a difference as i was told (12kg for standered flywheel) :(

bit of a change in plan sold my spare engine and also got a very good deal on a s1 rallye with a 1.6 16v engine so that will be my toy for the track/fastroad ect and my clio will stay my daily drive for now so will be cams 4-1 system decat/cat 2.5 system lightened flywheel modded induction system will be followed up with having it mapped with the mods.

now to start looking for barging bits for the rallye lol.

What cams are you going for? why?
What make is your manifold ?
Why have you picked a 2.5inch system over say a 2inch?
What difference did the fly wheel make to driving the car? Did it accelerate faster (proven?) Did the rev's rise and fall faster?

What cams are you going for? why? catcams 704s 1 of the highest spec you can use on standered valve train/pistons and i got them at a good price dont want to go to wild and push max power to high up the rev range.
What make is your manifold ? raceland
Why have you picked a 2.5inch system over say a 2inch? thinks its 2.5 might be 2" got a very good deal thro work
What difference did the fly wheel make to driving the car? Did it accelerate faster (proven?) Did the rev's rise and fall faster? haven't fitted it all and drove it yet.
on my last car it made a noticeable difference slightly better acceleration engine felt more free would rev up faster and reves would drop faster but the way the car was setup when changeing gear revs would drop to just above the start of the power band so when driveing fast was always in the power.

bought the parts mainly because they come up at the right time at the right price. always keep an eye out for a bargin lol if any other parts come up like tbs a worked head after market ecu at a good price then i will snap them up lol.

time to get my rsi sorted cars getting moved over the weekend to my new unit with a 2 post ramp ready to start working on it monday theres loads to do.

plan is to remove the engine and box in one then once on the floor take the dead box off and fit the lightened flywheel clutch and recon box. then to remove the old cams and fit the catcams along with new cambelt kit waterpump and aux kit (its on 120k 13yr old so due a cambelt/aux change). when the engines out will remove the old manifold and down pipe and drop in the 4-1 and downpipe/decat also fit a new gearbox and engine mount then refit the engine and box then give it a full service and fit the ultrasonic cleaned injectors.



other things to do are
brakes arnt to bad but low so will going to look at upgrading them asap.
look into fitting pollyflex bushes into the dogbone mount if they do them.
replace the abs ring on the drive shaft will do it when its off the car.
sort out the induction pipework/filter
cables snaped on the n/s window so got a new replacement unit to fit.
sort out the towing eye thread on the front then fit the s/steel tow eye.
replace the wipers with flat blades and the airel as someone nicked them before i put it into storage.
full clean inside and out then polish.
refurb the alloys and recheck the tyres as been sitting on them for so long prob gone out of shape.
look into geting a map to suit my engine and rs tuner or geting it remaped on the rollers asap.

last month got my car out of storage and down to my workshop to get it sorted

removed the engine and gearbox out the top replaced the cambelt water pump, aux belts and pullys also catcams.
then replaced the flywheel with a lightened version and new clutch fitted the gearbox replaced the gearbox and engine mount.
replaced the abs ring and regreased the cv joints.
gave it a full service incuding all fluids,spark pugs,fuel filter and pollen filter.

once the car was started the battery light was on after checking and testing a few things found that the alternator had given up so replaced it with a new unit.
retaped the tow eye threads and fitted the new tow ring.
replaced the nearside window regulator.
replaced the front brakes with pagid cleaned and readjusted the rears.

booked it in for its mot and it passed with only one advisory.


last week i got round to making up a joining pipe and fitting the 4-1 raceland manifold and decat its changed the exhaust tone and now sounds quieter.

managed to pick up a rsi off ebay Wednesday that was very cheap and local. its a year newer and looked the same colour blue in the photos but once parked side by side they are two different blues mines ov460 the new ones nv432.

took a few better bits swapped them over mine. my drivers central looking motor failed so used the one off the new clio fitted it tested it with the door card off worked fine so fitted the the door card on. only after all done found out that its wired opposite to mine so had to remove the door card disconnect it remove the wires for the connector switch them round re fit to the connector and re fit works fine now. going to strip the new clio sale a few parts and scrap the rest.

just now need to hook my car upto the aircon machine to re gas it and also get my car booked in for a remap.

Looks fantastic mate, i would only put the stock wheels on it, they look so cool and this is rare model, so keep it stock.;)

the oz 15s are staying possibly a different colour though. next on the list is some spacers for them.
need to colour code the spoiler and door handles and repaint the mirror covers.

also thinking of painting/warping the front diamond and rear badges.
