Mike explained it in detail to me...no idea what he said though. Like the acoustic valve IIRC, it does something, but the ultimate functioning of the car isn't affected without it.

basically it captures petrol vapour from the fuel tank & then the ecu feeds them into the manifold to be burned.

The clio has an additional fuel tank vent so the system can be removed & blocked off without any worries of the tank not having a vent......
