If he's changed the belt without the tensioners, he might as well have not bothered.

If it's all tickety-boo though, you've got a steal!

Is the 1.6 16v a DOHC as my 1.2 16v was a SOHC..

I paid £200 for my cambelt change on my 1.2 16v using genuine parts at a garage so £150 for a mate is quite acheivable.

DOHC. Its just a small 2.0 in design.

There's your answer then!

Non-gen parts! I'll give it 2k miles before valves are kissing pistons. ;)

Cheers for clarrifying that.
With the 1.2's it comes as a complete kit and its hardly a race engine, my bro changed his after work one day and whilst he's got a reasonable mechanical knowledge (marine engineer) he's not used to working on cars.
£150 seems about right for mates rates.
Like I said I paid £200 on the 1.2 at a garage and the additional £50 over what was paid here would be well worth it for the invoice/ stamp/ warranty on work/ peace of mind.

You boys, love a good catfight, just asked renault as i was on the phone, it IS possible that his mate has fit a new renault cambelt kit & aux belt kit and had some money left over for some beers out of £150!

Stop squabbling children!

Maybe some KY instead? I would want more than a few beers for changing a cambelt on a F4R ;) ;)

The non OEM belts arn't as bad as people think tbh!

There not, we fit plenty! Never had any problems at all!!, and on stuff with metal rollers, you don't need a kit either! All the clio lads also request gen, so they have them obviously!

All made in the same factory apparently, mine was genuine kit but tbh how long are you planning on keeping the car anyway?
My view was there was always 1.2 16v lumps on ebay for around the £150 mark, hence why I thrashed the tits of mine, disposable engines FTW!
