My Mk1 1.8 16v

I'm keeping this one, i did get a cup to use as a track car but then this came up for sale and i bought it, its had all teh welding done but not hte paint work, has a good spec

Engine -
High comp pistons
'fast road' cams (no idea what ones)
supersprint manifold
custom exhaust
Emerald ecu
apparently a williams box

chassis -
h and r coilovers
apparently polybushed through out

Interior -
rear stripped
16v leather front seats and door cards
luke harnessess

exterior -
carbon bonnet with center painted black
super turismo wheels in white with a mixture of crap tyres

When i bought the car it was advertised as 162bhp but i found the RR graph in the paperwork which shows it was 162bhp prior remapping and is now 174bhp

Here it is with the cup ive been taking parts from

I have bought polybushed 172 cup wish bones, taken the 172 cup master cylinder and brake hoses a ph1 172 arb and 172 hubs/brakes to fit to the car, ive also bought solid top mounts and black polybushes for the arb and steering from Russell

Now its just finding time to do all the work!
hoping to pick up some wheels tomorrow and some ph1 driveshafts early next week, still need to sort out some front shocks

Sills and arches are new, all the welding has been done, they have been painted matt black though so will need proper paint at some point, car has a cliosport sticker in it so someone on here owned it at some point

  Mk Clio 1.8 16v
i remember your black one from years ago, that was my clio envy! this reminds me of it albeit a different colour. its moving at a nice pace with parts etc!

A couple of the pics aren't working now as i moved them in to a different folder on photobucket but ill update the thread anyway, the car was dropped off at a friend of mines to get some bits done as i simply dont have the time to do them and it would have taken me a year with half hour here and half hour there + he has a ramp which makes life easier

The car was dropped with him with a list of things to do which included fitting the 172 track on it which was done with standard 172 shocks and cup wishbones but the ph2 arb would not fit with the supersprint manifold and the 16v one was obviously far to short que a panic to try and find a williams anti roll bar, which i managed to do, the same day we found i needed one!

So i traveled to Chelmsford and picked up the williams anti roll bar, i also bought a magnex exhaust, a spare rear bumper, steering column and a drive shaft, i went to my friends workshop the next day and we fitted the ARB with the bushes on the ramp (a task that is much much easier with 2 people) we also bled the brakes and i brought the car home with the following having been done -

abs removed
172 cup master cylinder
172 cup wishbones
172 front shocks (temporary)
williams anti roll bar
Black polybushes through out
speedlines fitted
solid top mounts fitted
Wilwood 4 pots with braided lines

and this is how it currently sits

In my very own 'Yard'

And gaz GHA to go on, 172 fronts with mk1 rears

20160707_115749_zpsnwa8imim.jpg

Im hoping to get the coilovers on this weekend, then the 4th mount and start addressing the stickers on the car

I do have to change my steering rack though as it has play in it, a mk1 rack is hard to get hold off and new bushes even harder so im going to fit a mk2 rack with the black polybushes and the 172 high pressure hose as it is different

Got the coilovers fitted yesterday

I have booked Bedford in August so i really need to get the last few bits done before then which are
- brake pads
- seats
- steering wheel

bodywork and anything else can wait

Haven't updated this thread but this is basically what has happened

I then sorted out some better brake pads, on Georges advice i bought some DS1.11 they dont come int eh right fitment for my wilwoods but a bit of grinding sorted that issue out -

I also replaced the number plates with a 3/4 front and a plane rear and fitted aerocatches simply to make bonnet removal easier

I did the renaultsport trackday at Bedford, it rained all morning and made driving around the track difficult however it dried up in the afternoon and i was incredibly impressed with the grip of the car, however with just 160-170bhp and not very much torque it really showed on the massive straight at Bedford, there was a couple of instances where i was much much quicker than cars in front on the corners and then on the straight they would pull to the side but because they didnt back off i couldn't get past them!

My day was cut short however with a CV joint rumbling really bad! so i left early to make a steady drive home, i got past Toddington services and lost the clutch to what i initially thought was a snapped cable, i got free recovery back to Toddington services where i waited until it was 9pm ish and drove home rev matching the gears, i got around a mile from my house and i lost all gears except 1st!

So the Following weekend i changed the gearbox to a 182 one i have, at the same time i also fitted a pair of ph1 shafts i had and a lower gearbox mount (not standard on a mk1) along with a brand new genuine clutch cable

13987819_10155219262534552_670936159_o_zpswbvfa2mc.jpg

And today i changed the crappy air feed for a proper sized one and fitted a proper heatshield

Lastly, im waiting for these to come back from France, then apart from bodywork im finished with the car (unless things break) im very very happy with how it performed at Bedford, it does lack power but i think once you start chasing that you dont stop!

  Clio 172 Cup, Eunos
I love the mk1's and really miss mine :(

Good work though, well done - are you going to paint the car eventually?

Im going to paint/have painted the rear quarters as they are currently black from where the new panels where welded in but that will be all, The car will never be properly tidy but it wasn't bought for that!

I dont plan on spending anymore money on it other than general maintenance
