Why you getting rid? You never dropped it, banded steelied it or put a BGW on!

I was interested to see how the MR2 would turn out shame you are getting rid. Good luck with the sale :)

Definitely makes sense mate. Are you actually going to get the next one low???? :)

Depends if I can get the HKS coilovers I have un-seized. It'll certainly be much easier having them off the car and being able to take my time with it, rather than having to rush to get it done on my days off etc. Should turn out pretty nicely... hopefully!

Me too! It would have been awesome if it was even slightly like my avatar. Ah well. I'd definitely have another, they have a ridiculously capable chassis; part of me finds that slightly dull though, so maybe an exhaust or something would have livened up the drive slightly. Never mind! Onwards and... errr... downwards :S

Makes me sad, but I completely understand, it makes perfect sense atm.

If you want to bring your HKS's over to mine, we can whack them in the vice and have a go at getting them un-seized.

Sounds ideal! Just need to find someone who wants to buy an uuber homo car first FFS! I've got about three MX5's lined up waiting to buy... £100 says they're all gone by the time this thing sells.

How did you find the MR2 to live with daily? Been looking at Celica's but your MR2 with hardtop has me considering one...! Just afraid it'll feel a bit 'flimsy', especially as for the first month it'll be doing a lot of motorway miles.

Il answer some of the above. The car feels fairly solid with the hardtop on. Certainly more do then a mk1 or mk2 mx5. However whip the roof off and it's not great. But the roof off makes up for it with the open air feeling so turn the music up and you'll barely notice. Boot space is questionable with only the fronnet being decent, you do also get two storage areas behind the seats

Thanks for that. Yeah, the car would be living with the hard-top on for most of the year! Obviously with the roof off I don't expect it to be the most comfortable experience, but that's kind of the point; great for warm summer days (all 3 of them) and that open air feeling you mentioned though, which is what you buy a soft top for. Not fussed about storage space as such, as I have no real need for a practical car at this point in my life!

As long as it's generally a decent place to be and not too noisy and wearing then I'm happy with that. Despite driving a Saab currently I'm not that fussy, just don't want it to be a car that you can't reasonably live with. As I say, it'll live with a hard-top most of the time.

If you need to unseize something you need to soak it, in a bath of proper lubricant from a specialist, maybe speak to BiltHamber or similar, spraying some WD40 onto a thread won't help s**t.

In terms of storage, you get that; there is a large cubby hole behind the seats with two doors. The second picture shows it with one open. It's not so bad, you could fit an over-night bag in it and that's probably about it. The front boot is okay, I don't tend to use it though as you can't take the spare wheel out and fill it up because the alarm siren is exposed. Day to day, it's very quiet, the steering is light, but it doesn't feel over assisted, the clutch is lighter than a 1*2 but heavier than a MK1 MX5 if you've ever driven one. The gear change felt a little odd to me at first, but it's actually really nice - not notchy in the slightest and there's a nice weight to it. It's a very good drivers car with the hardtop on, feels like any other car with a proper roof; it's just a little soft when you take the hard top off, more so than I was expecting I think. It's probably on par with a MK1 MX5 with some chassis bracing.
It is lovely to live with day to day, great stereo, comfy seats and a fantastic heater which is kinda why I'm sad about having to get rid! Also, it's really really nice with the roof off completely, you can take up and above motorway speeds and still have your hair-do intact (majorly important for a hairdressers car) and you can still easily hear the radio. The engine is also fairly awesome. There's a huge chunk of torque everywhere above around 2,000rpm, and it starts to make a fantastic noise at around 6,000rpm. It's very linear in how it delivers power, there's no 'kick' once you're above 2,000rpm, it just effortlessly sails to the redline. I love it tbh!

EDIT: It also appears to be retardedly easy to work on. Exhaust lambda's are right in front of you as you open the bonnet, only thing that's a little tricky to get at is the throttle cable. All the steering column, front brakes/master cylinder are easy to get at and there's plenty of room.
& Thanks for the advice Gally!

Thanks for all that info Joey, appreciate it. :) It sounds pretty easy to live with then; I'm surprised to hear it's quiet and the 'creature comforts' like stereo, seats and heaters are actually good too...definitely not what I expected! I did wonder how refined it would be with the roof off in terms of the wind blowing you about and that, but again I'm surprised to hear it's pretty refined. Definitely sold me on one! With a hardtop it sounds the perfect all rounder.

It certainly is! Much better than an MX5 in everyway IMO, but that's actually one of the reasons I kinda want another MX5, because they're flawed in some ways they have a bit more character. The MR2 is like a mini Boxster. The MX5 is more childish in the way you drive it! lol.

@burnyc if anyone buys it off here il make sure it gets a thorough valet before it changes hands. I'm sure joey won't mind me saying this is not a showroom example but if you try and find one in the same condition/spec for the price it's not easy, I know as I was looking for one before I bought my mk3 mx5.

No, definitely not showroom spec. You've got to remember that it's an 11 year old car, though. I tend to forget an '02 plate doesn't mean a 5 or 6 year old car anymore! Odd.

Indeed, every car is going to have small cosmetic blemishes...wheels have to put up with a lot too. As long as the mechanical things have been looked after, and the bodywork is straight and there's no major keying or anything, everything else can generally be tidied up pretty easily (or ignored!). Yeah, it's weird to think 2002 is 'old'...

I'm pretty set on one of these or a Celica 190 really, but I have a Saab to shift first, plus a few other pieces of 'life admin' that are bigger than a new car sadly!

Well, just give me a PM if it's still around when you're ready - I can arrange to meet you halfway etc if you want to view it.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I hope for your sake it's not still for sale as I know how frustrating that can be, but it's good to know. My long term goal is your avatar, so maybe one day it'll get round to looking like that! ;)
