My new racecar project (Icemans old shell)

I'll be a bit off 260bhp I'm afraid, I think getting a reliable f4r to do those kind of numbers would make my eyes water in terms of money! It's new crank and solid lifter territory and I could never justify that.
Yeah I agree with the 197, ive raced Kevs Tricolore 200 at donington in tintops and its good fun but slow in a straight line needs a lot more power and I think you'll struggle to get it to a sensible kerb weight as the shell and running gear are so much heavier than in a 172/182.
Russ
These are the problems mate. I'd say 10k will get you a reliable and strong engine making 260+ IF you know where to go and what to buy.

Hopefully next time I've got some pics it'll be mint with all new bits fitted!
Seen as the clio is just about ready for testing and The breather plate is away being welded ive got time for other jobs.
Got a nice 182 track car in for some wiring work. Oe ecu and uch to remove and existing wiring to pare back and modify for existing omex 600 ecu and new race technology dash 2.

Engine loom is just about done, sensor sub loom to finish and I'll put the front lighting loom in then I can move inside and do the new fuse/relay box and dash wiring.

No mate it's not mine just in for some work.
@neil a certainly a good way to lose a fair bit of weight but more importantly make it a lot more reliable and eaiser to fix if there is a problem, essential on a race car.
Russ

Good stuff. Just out of interest how much did or do you charge for a full strip back like that. Something I'd love to have done if I progress with the car this year.

That's the car all done for now. Going for full geo setup next Friday and the map tweaked after that.

Off to the TARC awards dinner down in St Albans now.

Productive week on the car this week.
Took it to Blink Motorsport yesterday and had all the geo done and corner weighted. Rear beam should be spot on now. All corner weighted with race fuel level comes in at 890kg + driver so happy with that, I've added weight with the sump guard put stripped back other things do pretty much as it was.
Also dropped the car off with Paul West @ TDi North on the way back. He's going to tweak the map this week after fitment if the pm's exhaust manifold. He's also going to do some work on the part throttle map as its a bit on/off in wet conditions.
Popped in to demon Tweeks as well and finally got myself an FHR or HANS device as most of you will know them. Put it off last year but after seeing Darren's clio crash at cadwell I definately had to have one, I hope everyone else that is spending big money on clios over the winter leaves £250 spare to get one too. They're mandatory from 2016 in all racecars and this year in single seaters.

Purchased a brand new set of R888's for colder/damp conditions too so had them fitted.

In other news the van is still away being painted so have a temporary Towbar. E39 530d touring. Will do the job for a couple of weeks.

It was the TARC awards dinner last weekend too and it was great fun. I may however been a touch worse for wear due to excessive red wine consumption so sorry to @dinger @Apg100 and @Tony Hunter among others for having to listen to my sh1t all night!
Came away with the Tricolore series winner trophy which IMO should just be class A winner as Simon James in the class C Saxo should have won that but never mind, another trophy for the cabinet.

Quite like that last picture, if you don't know. From left to right it's Dave Bell (dinger), Tony Hunter, Simon James (black Saxo vts), Me (drunk) and Gerrard Merriman (White Saxo vtr)
More updates when the car is mapped this week.

Sorry I couldn't make the awards dinner, sounds like a good time was had by all though.

I bought myself a HANS device this year as well. Picked one up at autosport before I had chance to spend any money on the car!

Just had a read on the big screen (pc) good job all round mate, like what you did with the breather adaptation. So are you going to ceramic coat it? heard mixed reviews about coating the manifold, could weakening the head gasket or any weak point in the manifold (if any) on reason why I didn't do my 182 manifold. whats your thoughts?

Haven't decided on coating it yet mate, if the heat given off isn't excessive I probably won't bother but will see. It's the same as heat wrapping I guess, do you want to keep the heat retained in the manifold and therefore the head and risk the damage that way or do you want the manifold to give off its heat under the bonnet and risk getting excessive heat into sensitive areas/components? Pros and cons I guess.

Small update just to say it's all mapped now.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425939569.292481.jpg

It did max the oe injectors out so has a set of megane 225 injectors in there now. Looks like one of the oe ones was leaking slightly as well which may explain why I thought it was overfuelling last season.
Very impressed with the improvements from the new manifold, it's gained power everywhere from 3krpm upwards. Peak Torque is roughly the same as before but the curve is better now. It's a lot smoother now too. See graph below. Ignore the headline figures as it was run in 5th gear but the comparison is valid.

Need to get it back on the ramp this week as the gear linkage needs adjusted after being on the dyno. Gonna change the brake fluid and spanner check the whole car ready for testing.
