Update 4th of Jan 2026
Got the phase 1 172 back out today. Managed to persuade my wife and 2 kids that the Haynes breakfast club meet was a good decision even if it was -2.
After a bit of fiddling with the car seats it was all good.
It was a great meet and absolutely loads of cars including a few Clio’s namely mk3’s. Phase 1 didn’t look out of sorts either. Seems like a Porsche 992 gt3 are common as muck though. Must find out what the secret is to buying one..
Car ran well and heater works well which helps. Few things to sort out over the coming months
1. Mpg reads 2-3mpg and the Speedo is now intermittent infusing the odometer. I am thinking the wheel speed sensor has gone which is why this doesn’t work. So will get that changed. Assume they are the same as a 182.
2. Blue dash - paint is coming off almost as wet paint. Managed to source another dash so will get that changed soon
3. Brakes - pedal doesn’t have a good bite and there is some brake squeal so will likely freshen up the calipers and have a closer look
4. Boot struts need replacing
Most importantly the arches are booked in for February as keen to get them sorted.
All in all - a great car and it was great fun on the an and b roads from Bristol to Yeovil.. kids spent most of the time running in the field rather than looking at cars!!
