After my earlier thread showing some progress pictures...

Here

Now i have come to point where my fingers can really take much more and i had to stop.

I managed to get all the 'tubes' polished perfectly, they look so good in the light now, just need a few more 1200 grit sessions. ;)

The Renaultsport section is still on 400 grit and needs work before i get to 1200 grit or more. Still, it's all cleaned up and all the dimpled surface has been removed. Next weekend maybe.

Also degreased the entire block, added my Carbon engine cover, black anodised bolts and cleaned up all my Samco hoses.

Hope you like!

Chris

looking good.. think you can get it shinier though!
get every scratch out (you can see them as dark scratches were the water settles when doing the wet n dry rubbing) with 240, move onto a quick blast with 400, 800, then onto 1200, 1500, then autosol, then super resin. works a treat.

one of my fingers was bleeding yesterday from polishing mine up and my hands are all sensitive n hurting.. i can see why you stopped! lol

i left the top renaultsport bit as i could see it was going to be a b**ch between the letters! your a braver man than me. he he

you moving onto the fuel rail protector afterwards?

engine bay looks mint.

thanks guy!

yeah, i had to stop because i needed the car...as my hands were dead. :(

yeah, the fuel rail guard is next on the list, i might do this during the week as i could drive the car without it.

Sparco strut brace and strut covers on order too. :)

Chris

did you ever get to the point (prob about an hour into it) thinking.. what the hell have i let myself in for??

once you start it.. you have GOT to finish it! and it takes f**king ages and a lot of graft and pain!

yeah, i took the manifold off and got it in the kitchen. just looking at it was almost enough for me to turn around and put it back on!

i guess the hardest part is over now anyways ie. getting rid of the textured surface. :)

to be honest i cheated on mine after doing the first and second oen half by hand it was taking f**king ages, got a flap wheel in the drill and it took the texture off in no time.

hardest part was with the 240 gettign every tiny little scratch out, and also doing the bottom of the tubes where it meets the plate. well fiddly.

think yourself lucky though, you was in a nice warm kitchen.. i was outside in the street and it was FREEEEZING!

Looks like hard work, my best mate is a metal polisher by trade and he says hats off to you lot for doing this all by hand.

is it difficult removing it mate?? i did mine on the car like

but wanna whip the manifold off and take it down to local engineering place and have it matched to the gasket..

10 minute job Guy.

yours will be even easier due to you FBW throttle.

6 x 10mm bolts for the manifold.

4 x 10mm bolts for the coil pack.

Unplug all the hoses and sensors that are on the manifold.

Lift her off.

Be careful of the gasket at the bottom of the 'tubes' ...it's metal and if you mishape it in any way you won't get a good seal when you come to put everything back on. The engine will idle very, very fast due to the air leak.

I just carefully lifted the manifold off and then took the gasket off completely and left in out of harms way.

Chris

did you look as to how the exchange manifold comes off?? (bit that you get matched, between the inlet and the head)

looking good, started mine yesterday but didnt get to finish it today as planned, due to unforseen circumstances (fooking badgers)

it'll be spanking by FCS mate.

needs some more 1200 grit i think. :)

its getting the little scratches out thats the hardest!!! but ill stick at it, but might not have any fingers left by FCS!!!

use 240 grit for that..

its a right pain in the bollock.

my finger was bleeding after doing mine.

when using the wet and dry you can see the little scratches as dark lines were the shitty water lies.

they do come out eventually though!

may give mine a bit more of a blasting with the 1200 grit and metal polish in the week when i drop the cover off at the bodyshop.

if you start thinking ''ah its only 3 scratches'' just remember that you will prob get to the end stage with the metal polish, notice them scratches, and be back to the 240grit stage as you wont want to accept anything less than perfect!
