Need your thoughts... Clio 197 down on power

  Clio 197
I have a 2006 Clio 197, completely standard.

So I was driving home from work the other day and noticed when I put my foot down not a great deal happened. The engine was up to temperature, yet still sounded like it does when cold, and felt similar in terms of power too. The most worrying thing was when I could barely beat a low model Fiesta in a quick sprint between lights.

Now as you can imagine, this was very strange considering the day before it was perfectly fine, and when I got home the engine sounded different, like a slight ticking.

Popped in to a local dealer to get their opinion, the guy there said the engine sounded fine but would need a diagnostic to be certain. Mentioned about a dephaser pulley, which will be expensive.

So what I really would like to know, is if anyone has had a similar issue, and if so, what was the cure?

And does the cam belt need redoing as part of the dephaser pulley being changed?

Sorry for the essay, just looking for the views of people that know about my car!

  dan's cast offs.
Where was ticking coming from? Prone to manifolds cracking and that can grow a spanner in the works.

The ticking sounded like near the top of the engine. But like I said, the guy from Renault said it sounded fine, so I'm not sure what to make of that?

Yeah I hope it's not a crack, might be fairly expensive lol

Also, flexis brake on the manifold and this causes a big flat spot at about 2.5k revs.

Ok, so a quick update:

No faults stored when it had a diagnostic check.
Just tried a 0-60mph and it took 10 seconds, so not good.

Gonna be checking the spark plugs Friday to see if they're dry as a friend of mine reckons it could be fuel pump.

Any other thoughts?

Plugged the Bluetooth reader in again, reckons I currently have 140bhp.

There's also absolutely no kick after 4,500rpm like there should be.

Will this be anything to do with vvt?

have you checked the manifold flexis? Although to cause the symptoms you mentioned would imagine it would be pretty broken (which you should notice)

I've been assured that's not the problem as its not blowing, exhaust sounds normal. Had someone test the air/fuel ratio earlier and he said that was perfect, so his thoughts were either something to do with vvt or cams..

Maybe you should get the timing checked?
