New 182 wanabee!!!!!!

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf

Reading the news in EVO that landed on my door mat yesterday and there is a pretend 182 for those that cant afford it and cant get insurance,By all accounts its supposed to look the same as a 182 but comes with a 1.2 engine

Hope J.Townsend is around to clear this up before an impending stampeed comes over to ask how where and when

It didnt mention the exhausts or anything but said it would be kitted up and cost under £9000.

Haha! All the 182 owners getting screwed just like the 172/172 Cup owners.

Not that im in anyway bitter.

bit like the civic with the type "s",It nearly looks the same but then you feel a little let down when its not the real thing.

And of course all the chavs will be saying how they beat "one of those 182 things" when it was really a 1.2

They cant do that!!! At least in the 172 I know they aint gonna be manufacturing 1.2s. Cant imagine seeing a 1.2 clio with wheelbarrow handles sticking out the back.I think we should all have 2 minutes silence:cry:

its half annoying half good, annoying that you will have the clueless masses saying they beat a 182 in a thrash across town but good that people will have less ways of telling if its a 1.2 or 2.0 so you can hand out a spanking to those VTR drivers that think they can do you off the lights

Renault are in the business of making money. Id think theyd sell a few of them. Probably use up a load of parts hanging around as well before the new model.

As if there isnt enough clios out there! No afence but if this is true and they do look like a 182 i would be pissed if i own a 182! and i know for sure i aint gonna buy one now! My 172 Cup looks great ;)

I think its good in a way.Its great for young drivers who can get the look and not the premium and i cant see it effecting the residuals of a genuine 182.

I cant see renault spending the money on the car by having the same exhausts as a 182,there is no point on a 1.2 and it must be expensive.

My guess is 172 floorpan and some new kit,With the price being so low it can only be cosmetic changes to keep the price down.

But i can see cup options to make them a bit more money

Why does this come as a surprise to anyone? Its normal for most major manufactures to do this.

I used to have a 306 GTi-6, when I got it was unique in the range, a few months later they all looked the same. Honda have done it slowly with the Type S. At first it looked similar, now you have to look hard to tell it from a Type R having seen the latest Type S in the dealers the other day. Ford Focus all looked pretty much the same towards the end of its life. The Saxo VTR/VTS soon had smaller engined cousins which looked the same.

At the end of the day it doesnt make my car any less attractive to me, or desirable.

Renault sort of did it with the 172, what with the rest of the range getting practically the same wheels.

ever heard the phrase "cheapening the brand" ?

i know its not the same league but i used to work for BMW and they put a hold on all M badges/bumpers/spoilers/wheels/engine parts so that you could only order them if you owned one and could provide a chassis number as proof. This stopped copycat 318s springing up and devaluing the real Ms that the owners had paid a premium for to get the looks/performance over the rest of the range.

Spot on post Loony

IMO though I think Renault are undermining the Renault Sport brand name in general, As do several drivers locally that buy a sport badge and stick to tailgate of non RS Clios but thats a whole other ball game !

lets hope so, lol

when i 1st got my 172 i used to get people come over at petrol stations of come back to the car and find people peering through the window or looking at it in carparks. Its happened a couple of times since i got the 182 too. If its an almost identical copy in terms of looks then this will be lost, its difference from the rest of the range will go and i think its a shame personally.

Cant see it happening, what did EVO actually say?

I think anyone who knows nothing about a Clio would see a new Clio (with the 15 inch 172 wheels) and say "looks just like a 172!"

They were probably just trying to make it sound more inticing, re-wording a press release from Renault..

thats the clincher, it wont be 172/182 bumpered its just a std clio with some minor cosmetic changes inside and out then.

It is defo the extreme 4, take it from me at renault chippenham, they do look quite sporty in silver in the flesh, wheels mimmick the 172 but are 15s not 16s, quite low spec interior but great for the first time buyer, the free insurance has been extended to offer drivers of the age of 18 to get it free now. This may be on the rush model, not sure if it applies to the extreme 4.

It is based on a dynamique spec clio and is easy to upsell to a dynamique from the rush because of the things you gain for next to no money.

that was close - no sh*t I was about to sell my 182 and get back into the T5. If this had really happened then I would have no option but to sell my 182 and write a letter to renault telling them that they have lost a customer who has bought over 10 cars from them in almost as many years.

There is simply no way I could tolerate that - and iam pretty sure Renault Sport wouldnt be too happy either. It would have totally diluted the image of the RS clio.
