I built the pc im sittin on about 6 yeras ago so its getting a bit old...still runs newish games at full spec but im wanting a new pc but i havent been keeping up with the current stuff so im a bit lost with whats good and whats not from what i do remeber ive picked out a few parts bar a PSU as im not sure what size ill need anyway heres what ive got so far....

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (11110-00-20R)

All i need is the PSu really and i dont plan on overclocking atm so im just gonna use the Retail CPU fan for now.....

Some help would be great im looking to spend a max of £500 so far it comes to £350 thats with delivery

you have a decent spec level coming up so, imo, it seems a waste to nor buy a decent card. i have an 8800 and it is great.

however, all dpeends on whether you would use it or not?

good choice on the AMD. i have the 4600 iirc and it is great

quicker, uses less power, more overclockable - whats not to like.

Also may as well get a DX10 card, unless your wanting to wait til DX10 games are fully out

Dont like Intel never have always had AMD, as for graphics card i wont be using it as much to bare the thought of spending £200 on one also when with the Crossfire board to give me the choice if i need more power can always buy a duplicate card or a more powerfull one to pair them up all i really need to know is how big a PSU to go with ive got a 580w in my current PC but thatll be staying in there will i need a larger one than that in this build ?

That card i picked is a DX10 card mate

Ive still to look around other sites for prices ocuk was just the first site i went around picking parts

i do agree intel are better especially if you want to overclock but the reviews i read compared to the AMD showed the AMD faired better stock than many intel chips.

horses for courses really, plus i like AMD as i have had them before etc.

me too, ive always had amd.

but looking round and sorry to say but intel are now the market leaders. they are better cpus that perform better & overclock better. ANY website will tell you this. You'd be crazy to buy a amd dc when you can get a better intel dc for the same price or less.

also that harddrive looks expensive, i picked up a 500gb on ebuyer for roughly the same price 2 weeks ago

Im not bothered about the looks or quality (although the reviews say its well built) just want a a case for it to start with if i dont like it i will go for a higher end one, cant complain though comes with two 12cm fans

I have that case, i highly recommend it. Everything installed fine. Fans are quiet, didnt cut myself installing the bits.

And looks good, only issue is it would look crap if you had more than 1 optical drive and the top one is a flip down.

Ignore the Value Select ram, it was for my GF's laptop, annoyingly intel brought out the E6450 or something which has 4mb cache but ah well.

Intel are best chips on the market - you would be silly to go AMD. Never been a fan of Intel prefer AMD again give me something in the same price range as what ive got from Intel and ill take it on board

I will be playing the odd game but it dosnt justifiy me paying £200-400 ona graphics card...Im more than happy with what ive picked out but if some one can show me a more powerfull graphics card and cpu for around the same prive then id be happy to change them

i cant really see the point in buying a brand new pc with new parts and only going half assed at it, just spend an extra 200 quid, get a graphics card that will last for another 5-8 years and get a faster processor, because 2 years down the line your pc will need upgrading again.

8800GTS gfx card can be had for £180-£190

The 8800GTS 320Mb is a great card but in many synthetic DX10 benchmarks theres a lot of websites questioning the performance of it's DX10 gaming performance once we actually get a proper DX10 game, I'd be reluctant to buy until they've been put through their paces using an off the shelf DX10 game such as Crysis when we see what they'll actually do with a proper title

mine was under £650 and is a better system. ide seriously look at the 8800, if your spending £700 on a base unit, myself ide want the best in there, which i bought, the 8800.

i got the same ram just under a different name and i got the 500gb harddrive.

motherboard looks ok but i really dunno why you would go for an amd over an intel.
