i cant see why anyone would buy a 197 when u can have a 225 or 230 megane for similar money!

I've not driven a 225 or a 197 so I'm a bit clueless on this tbh. I used to own a 172 and loved the chuaboutability of it. But is a 197? or a 225 even?

At a guess I'd imagine the 197 is a lot closer the handling characteristics of a 172/182 while the megane is more of GT. Any experienced opinions on this would be very helpful! :)

Also any news on a 197 cup yet?

Why have they given it a short 6th gear ffs?! Grrr! Short 5th annoyed me on the motorway in my clio. They give it a whole other gear and gear the final drive even shorter! "Hello, McFly!!!"

yeha the 6th is othe onlt annoying thing. i find it odd really as 5th is easily good enuogh for any ragging so the 6th could have been a lovely cruisng gear for the motorways. would have made a difference in the economy imo. at 70 - 75 i average 33-34mpg in my 197 roughly.

That's a real shame really. If it's a more focused racing machine than an old ff, then I can sort of understand. But if they were going for something as well rounded then they could have done better on the fuel economy for motorway cruising. 70-75 in a 172/182 should see 40+ mpg so it is quite a difference.

Is the 197 as mobile as the 172/182? Or does the extra size and weight really show?

i do actually beleive the 197 is a more focused 'handler' than the 182. but many will disagree.

imo the 197 handles better, has more grip, the engine note is fantastic and puts the 182 to shame and is a far better car. but that is just another can of worms that i don't really want to get into tbh.

some will love it, some will hate it. it all comes down to personal opinion. the whole '182 is faster' debate is also pointless. yes it is quicker by a few 0.2's or so, but on the road this is not noticable. mine is now on 6k and is flying. goes very very well.

Have you driven a megane 225?

yes, an orignal version several years ago. felt it was a bit too big for my liking but that is jsut my personal opinion. i do like the turbo grunt though. i found it to be less involving than my 182 at the time.

my bro has a r26 but i haven't driven that, but it is very quick.don't know how it compares to the older 225's but i guess it is quite an improvement over the original 225.

Too many things annoy me about the 197 and the shorter ratio 6th just pi55es me off !!! lol

The 182 will proabably be my first & last renault.
