Have always had this and cant figure out how it happened, the only way i can describe it is that it looks like someone has put a wire-brush over my
headlights!, its always been there since owning the car, ive tryied autoglym class polish and didnt make no difference, Any ideas whats happened? .. Im going to source some new ones, and deffo get some silvervisions, never noticed how much they show the orange until i got down to take a look..

What you think could have caused the scratches?

ive had the same with my headlights, felt rough when rubbing it. What i did was get some soft sandpaper and gently sand it off, much better now than it was before.

It's common on the headlights, guess it's either stones on the road or poor washing technique that causes it. Best bet is either a machine polisher, or SRP and a lot of elbow grease. Sandpaper would work too, but you'd need to be careful.

Theres a guide on how to fix it in the ClioSport Guides section. Only thing is you'll have to be a member to view it :(

I thought of sand paper, but didnt want to completly wreck them, currently browsing ebay to see what i can find, i have pollishing machine, well its my bros, but its cool for me to use it, considering he sold his S3 and got a 1.9 TDI gold for motorways :(, but what would i apply to the buffing pad? What kind of stuff should i be looking at?

By the way, they feel like sand paper when running hands over them :(

wet sand it using 1500 + grit, it will be fine you wont ruin them, i was afriad of doing that too. glad i did it though, much better now.

when using polish it goes when rubbing over it, then it will come back up if you leave it for abit.

i had the same problem, i used 800 grit down to 1500 grit (make sure you use water) then the will look misted if you know wot i mean. the i used some cutting compoud, then some heavy cutting polish then auto glym super resin polish. all sorted now took about 1.5 hours on each light by hand though. would be alot easyer if you have a machine polisher to hand.

Cheers guys, might have a go tomorrow depending on weather, and what plans dad has in garage, will get some sandpaper tomorrow and let you all know, i got some 1200 here somewere i think, soon find out, if not, will keep you all updated,

I got a machine buffer, might give that a go on the super resin polish as i got that too.

Cheers, :)

JMS tuning offer a headlight correction service, but they are quite a way from you, I would sand them back with 1200 grade, then 1500 and then hand polish with a fine polish.

it happens to quite a few cars, what needs to be done is start with p800 then go to p1200/1500/2000/2500/3000 the finer grit you go to the better results you'll have

once you have got to 3000, use a heavy cutting compound, eg Frecla G3 or 3M fast cut, super resin polish will NEVER work as it contains no cutting agents

My mistake on SRP, I can't remember what I actually used, but you're right about it not getting through.

Whats a headlight correction service? Basically like a refurb sort of thing?

I've just sorted this out for a lad in derby, sanded down then gone over with my g220, made it a lot better but I never got them perfect.

Takes a bit of time though, a lot longer than I originally thought!

i belive its where the plastic headlights react to the UV radiation, best bet is to sand it back as said above....just dont mistake 120 grit for 1200 grit...or you'll be there a while!
