New (to me) Artic blue 182

  BMW F30 / Clio 182
I bought my 182 off Matt from here back in March. Safe to say I've loved it!
Matts project thread which I'm continuing on from http://www.cliosport.net/threads/matts-artic-blue-182.801984/

My daily is an F30 330D that I bought to cope with the 18,000 miles a year I do. It looks nice but is drab to drive and boring

I love this car, it's a dedicated track, weekend toy so will be improved upon and this thread I'll post updates and maintenance if there is any interest.
I've done basic spannering in the past and want to learn more, so expect lots of stupid questions.

So the plans:
- rear camber shims / from camber bolts ordered.
- sort siezed tie rod end, think I will outsource this as I don't have the equipment or skill!
- sorted grotty siezed coilovers, pics below
- POWERRRRR, not sure how to go down this route, may pick one of the ED turbo packages.
- MSA approved cage

Already done:
I put some shorter bolts in the Corbeau seat mounts as they were fowling the runners and my missus couldn't get the seat close
enough to the peddles.
Changed injector 3 which sorted my lumpy idle and flashing EML light.
Sorted knackered exhaust mounts and realigned exhaust. Used cable ties on new bushes to hold.

Next was to sort the coilovers. These were looking very unloved and siezed bad. An afternoon of soaking, hammer, flat head, wire brush and back in business.

And some random pictures of my missus becoming 'at one' with the car at Rockingham.

Awesome car this, good luck with the continued project :up: from one arctic owner to another!

P.S. this is still the only Clio I've seen with the same Sparco wheel as mine although this car had it first!

Looks really tidy mate and has clearly been well looked after from the project thread.

Get it along to ClioSport Festival!

Yeah it's a credit to Matt and the owner before to be fair, got a lot of comments at both Combe and rockingham as to how quick it looked and that's with a noob behind the wheel.
I'm at Reading festival that weekend!

New camber bolts and shims had the red card of death from the postie through the door yesterday.
Track / tie rods ends due today along with the special tool I ordered.
Will post up a mini 'how too' guide if there is interest.

Currently have been soaking all relevant bolts in PlusGas over and over!

Good to see a project thread up mate!

I'm debating another 182 as I miss this thing... don't want to sell it do you? haha!

  BMW F30 / Clio 182
Cheers mate!

Car is currently on axel stands with one trackrod end done, one waiting for a gap in the storm to be ground off!

Still waiting on my parts off KAM racing that I ordered a week and a half ago, not best please!

I'm considering ordering a half cage eBay job, more for the harness bars, stiffen it up a bit more and GoPro mounting!

Also need a new windscreen as a piece of gravel cracked mine at Lydden.

Matt I'll do you a deal, £3k and I get it back on weekends [emoji23]

Next stop, Oulton on 11th July! Must get tracking sorted out first.

I'd be keen to get views on the best track focused coilovers.
The Bilsteins currently fitted are too stiff on the rear.

Can't see that working out mate - tempted to buy a boosted one this time (and then fit all the mods I fitted to your current one!)

Surprised that you're finding the billies too stiff for track work. I know AST are the 'ones to have' for track, but will be extremely stiff for road use.

  BMW F30 / Clio 182
Haha, I'm wondering whether to boost, or to sell up in the new year in favour of an Elise or VX220. Hmmmmm

I'm doing a lot of preventitive maintenance now, things like track rod ends and may refresh the wish bones so this car will stay mint for a long long tome

Smart. Liking the 1.2's in 15"

Cheers, need a refurb as the track hasn't been kind to them.
Considering white, however brake dust will not be a happy place!

Other news, both new TRE almost there, had to grind the OS off, causing me major headaches with the OS steering rack gaitor as there is simply no room to move my gammy big hands around the engine.

Next step tracking!

That's what I thought to be honest, the instructor on the day said they were too stiff at the rear.

Well duh.... [emoji23]

Today I finished the long, tedious and painful task of inner / outer TRE, asked a lot of stupid questions, went through 2 over priced 'specialist' tools I will never use again, cursed more than I ever thought possible at a piece of rubber gaiter.

Patting myself on the back at a job well done I thought I'd take the TRE top nuts off and refresh them, cos, why not?
I MANAGED TO CROSS THREAD ONE NOT PAYING ATTENTION IS WHY NOT.

New NS track rod ordered, shouldn't be too bad to fit. Oh, and I got distracted in Halfords buying cable ties and the proud new owner of their 200 piece socket / spanner set which I've never seen not on half price.

Must get some gloves or something if I'm to continue playing with this, my hands are shot and I am delicate

A small selection of parts has begun to mount in the garage.

My camber bolts and rear shims have arrived, as has my heel and toe pedal from a member here.

I'm going to outsource the fitting of these to a friendly local garage who have set up race cars and specialise in alignment.
I've also got some new brembo HC brake disks to fit.

I'd like to get some new tyres as the AD08rs are looking worse for wear after 3 track days.
Seriously considering some new alloys also for wet tyres as I've had close calls with the weather on all 3 UK track days.

Thinking: R888 for warm days, I'd welcome recommendations for wet days?

In slightly different news, I've booked a trailer course for the first week in July with the intention of being able to trailer my car up for Oulton on the 12th July.
Need to get clued up on trailers, Brian James looks a safe bet, but their clubman series only states a safe weight of just under 1000kg

Cage ordered from eBay, will get some pictures up shortly as what's a thread with no shiny pics!

Thank you dude, I'm really stuck as what to do at the end of the season.
Sell and part fund a Turbo VX220 or just use that money and get the ED 280 bhp kit on this.

That's a difficult one that, i'd steer more towards the Clio direction however not because it's a Clio but because you know this car, have already spent money on it and 280bhp would be awesome fun and a good continuation of the project. A VX220 is a great car don't get me wrong, it's just starting from scratch again with another new car which I've got tired of myself so trying to stick with mine lol!

It's a valid point, I know this little car is a good example. Already shows others up on the track with a little experienced driver.

The only thing swaying me the other way, is I'd like to do a couple of European road trips and the Clio is undrivable for these low! Maybe I need another weekend car[emoji23]

After Oulton and hopefully donnington in a couple of weeks I aim to get it fitted. I am slightly concerned my dad will be driving at Oulton. [emoji23]

Cars back. Looks exactly as before to be fair, my mate managed to get my camber to around 0.5 using the camber bolts which is 'ok'
He mentioned he found the Bilsteins very boaty which id agree with to an extent.
May look into some BC / AST / Gaz next which some adjustable top mounts

Can't wait to pick it up

Sure dude, the seller doesn't list them anymore but can still produce them. I contacted him off the email on his website
alachi57.

I'll get some pictures of mine when it's done, should pick up this week.
@JonC219 is doing mine for me and replacing some of the spreader plates with more robust units. Dude knows his stuff!

Will get pictures once collected.

I wanted to get some new coilovers. But with my trailer test coming up and the cost of towbar fitting / trailer this may have to wait a few months.

Oh thought I'd post this. Last lap at an extremely wet and greasy oulton park.
I carried around 25/30 mph through the chicane (which you may here my delicate northern tones say) and then turned in a touch too early for a wetline on the bend. Gave my dad a brown trouser moment.

You wouldn't think it would make that much difference to the stiffness of the chassis...
But then again it was a tight fit! It's basically 'braced' on each corner.
Glad you're enjoying it mate and have fun at your track day in the week [emoji1303]

Shameless self plugging [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

It might be in my head but it definately seems to have stiffened it up!

So passed my trailer test last week after nearly cocking up the reverse manoveur due to a bad case of the yips.

I've put a deposit down on this trailer and have my towbar being fitted August 18th.

I'm driving the car to Snet on Thursday for hopefully the last time.

No real plans for the rest of the year as I'm buying a new house and relocating back t'north next year.
I may be coming into a bit of cash in January... boost??
I like the idea of a supercharger as something a bit different, would welcome views though, as I've shown throughout this thread I have 0 mechanical knowledge so would be outsourcing the work.

Got some new goodies arriving shortly, to cure he crippling understeer I've grown oh so fond of.
Had a great day at Bedford with a mate of mine on Wednesday.
Also, looks good on its chariot!
