Newbie, 182 project plan/advise needed

  Corsa Burg
Hi all,

Just joined as I am looking for some advise/want to share my idea's.
I currently have a VXR but don't want to mod it due to the lifetime warranty so I'm after a project.

The Plan-
182 (black/silver)
Stripped rear
Bucket seats
Cage
Coilovers
New exhaust
Lightweight alloys
etc.

Thinking on a bright orange with the black/silver too.

Basically making a road going go-kart.
Then look into engine mods.

Yes/No?

Also, what's reliability like after 60k miles??

Thanks :D

Hi all,

Well lets say pretty much all engine failures on here are due to cambelt failures, there is a 182 trophy on here currently over 150k and running perfectly, the main reliability issues with the cars is the electrical things, and sensors and wheel bearings. the engine just needs to be serviced regurly and the cambelt must be changed every 5 years or 72k whichever is soonest, and requires special tools, so is a specialist only job your looking at £500 -700 for cambelt change.

If you want a stripped out road car/track car look at 172 cups they already come lightened so renault have done half of the job for you and cambelt changes are cheaper due to no A/C, that is where i would be putting my money if i were you

Are the 172's quicker to 60 too?
Thanks for your reply!

marginally, there is very little in it between all of the ph2's the original (ph1) 172 is the fastest but has things like a/c and abs that you may want to remove for the track.

i would choose between those two

examples of suggested choices, its up to you in the end but they seem to be the most popular cars to turn into trackday cars

Thanks!

I prefer the look of the ph2 alot more tbh.
I know it doesn't matter massively for this instance but I would still regularly use it on the road.
Do 182 bumpers fit the 172 I assume and alloys?

Oh that's cool.
Do want a track car but I want it to look good as well, looking at 172's now they are 0.1 slower to 60 than the 182 according to autotrader, you could make that up with a decent strip of the car imo.
Bright orange and silver theme :p

So are u looking at 172's or 172 cups, as cups are normally blue and there are a handful of silver ones.

Dan

  172 track thingy
Get a bean (orange 182 cup) 182 looks with the cup setup you want for track :) things can be taken off if you don't need them but hard to put on if you want them ;)

Was only looking up to around 3k as a base for the car?
Not sure I've seen any orange ones below that? A few extra's would be nice, I will strip the rear but I'm not going to be taken 'everything' out by any means.

A normal 172 is like a 182 just without the exhausts, so you will have to decide which you prefer/can afford.
Look like this: cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?592779-Clio-172-FULL-service-done-open-to-offers-(2002)-2500

A 172 cup has no a/c less nice seats and various other weight removal features and nicer wheels.
Looks like this: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?598307-clio-172-cup-64-500-miles-%A32795

A 182 looks like this: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?598136-Arctic-blue-clio-182-for-sale-%A34500

The 172 cup is best for track use, like I said before they made a few in silver, but they are quite rare. When looking for these cars you need to be clued up on the differences between normal and cup cars, as sellers sometimes don't know themselves!
